found skull and antlers. record book maybe?

3MNj16Dl.jpg

A fisherman in Ardboe, a small village in Ireland, discovered the skull and antler remains of an extinct Great Irish Elk, a creature that hasn?t roamed the Irish landscape in thousands of years. Though this isn?t the oldest Great Irish Elk discovery ? that distinction goes to one dated around 14,000-years-old ? it is far more notable: the massive skull and antlers are completely intact.

    Probably not.

    This is the first I've ever heard of the great Irish elk. But after Googling it, this looks like it was a small one

    Once upon a time I visited Ireland and saw more than one Irish Elk skull and antlers. I have to agree that the one shown here is rather small. They are impressive.

    "PICKED UP" TROPHIES*
    Trophies in the records book with hunter listed as "Picked Up," include specimens that were found dead by hunters or hikers, and animals that have died from natural or unnatural causes, such as old age, severe winters, falls, car accidents, lightning, fence entanglements, drowning accidents, etc. "Picked Up" trophies also include animals that were illegally taken but are now held in trust for the public by game and fish departments. In the latter case, the poacher's name will not be listed in the book to avoid giving him credit for the kill. "Picked Up" trophies are an integral part of the Club's records-keeping activities. The fact that they were not taken by a hunter is irrelevant because the Club recognizes the trophy, and because they give a more complete picture of the successes of conservation efforts.

    Yes they do have a class for "picked up"but as I said before, after Google it. This one seems to be pretty small compared to others that's why I said that it's doubtful. But it's still an impressive find, and probably worth a few bucks. No pun intended

    Plus they probably don't have a class for great Irish elk because they are extinct

    Amazing, I have read about them and seen some artists renditions of how they thought they looked, but that is cool to see an actual.

    Bet they were really majestic to see on the hoof.
    Wonder if they whistled like an Elk, grunted like a moose or roared like a Stag/Red Deer?

    And FYI, Boone and Crockett only recognizes North America Big game, have use toSafari Club International and see if they have a extinct animal category #129312;

    Why did they go extinct? Vehicle emissions or cow flatulence?
