Swelling Welfare Rolls Are a Sure Sign That Recovery Never Happened
By: Michael Medved
What does President Obama plan to do to slow or stop the explosive growth in the number of Americans who count on regular welfare checks from the federal government? Does he consider the expansion of dependent households a positive achievement for his administration or a threat to the long-term vigor of the economy? These distinctly uncomfortable questions pose a potent threat to an embattled administration already struggling to defend its record of economic management and to secure the president's reelection

He doesn't want to slow the growth, he is encouraging it to explode.

The more people dependent on "the gummint" the more people likely to vote for "the incumbent".... you know the old adage "Don't bite the hand that feeds"

Our Dear Leader has a fundamental misunderstanding of private sector growth and government growth and, more importantly the relationship between them.

He is incapable of understand the macro economic picture; a picture where Wall Street is now reacting to Ben Shalom Bernanke and Federal Reserve Policy rather than reacting to private market factors. The market is not driven by business, it is driven by Government.

In layman's terms, "we are screwed".

It truly is all smoke and mirrors, Fiat money, a house of cards, teetering in the winds of time, tic, tic, tic...........

Don't blame the POTUS, Congress is equally guilty for allowing it. Ultimately, the voting population that put them in to power is responsible.

I used to think that, but anymore I disagree. The problem is really the lack of jobs. When an employer gets over 300 applications for a single opening, a lot of people that are qualified suddenly become unemployable due to health, age, etc.

I've had 2 heart attacks and I have that fibromyalgea crap. Not to mention that I'm getting old. I'm very good at my job, but if my company were to shut down, what chance would I have against a hundred or more young, lively, healthy bucks that would be happy with less money and can be brought up to speed?

There's no doubt in my mind that there are a lot of people on these govt programs that would much rather be earning a paycheck.

i agree tx its very evident a lot of people are seeking work. a position was posted "in house" at my employer then was posted at the Job service office. over 200 applicants tried to get this job. i am 62 with a history of back trouble, altho surgery has not been needed. all totalled maybe 30 days of missed work over 25 yrs because of back issues. i have been journeyman machinist since 1974. i have impeccable references and a spotless work history. i had been laid off for 10 months , sent out over 100 resume's across a 3 state area. the only response i got back was a former machine shop owner who said FIND A DIFFERENT CAREER. i was able to land a job at my present employer but since they knew they had me over a barrell i took a low rate pay/few benefits job basically as an "off the street" machinist apprentice.age discrimination? hell yes. poor economy DOUBLE HELL YES a employers market for sure. i have increased my wage rate little by little, but nothing commensurate to my skills and ability, while "machinists? younger and less qualified make much more. the company knows i needed a job to remain where i am. yes i took it only because i was desparate.
