My neighbors in the hollow about a quarter mile from me are having a blast and I'm jealous. It started off with a few shots from what sounds to be a AR. Next thing I know, full auto mode. From the sounds of it they went through about 5 or 6 mags full. I wanna play too.[:I]

You didn't call the Sheriff about the noise?? [:D] One of the local Counties that is mostly rural has had their Board of Supervisors taken over by wealthy city folk that built their golf course communities in the county. They just recently made shooting on your property fall under their noise violation ordinances because the city folk didn't like hearing gun shots. It is creating quite a fuss, and they are poking the bear.

    People are idiots.

I am a member at a range that has been in the same place for decades and has a permit valid through the end of this century.

The range parallels a railroad track and over the past 10 years, a housing development has grown up alongside the railroad track parallel to the range.

We can no longer shoot .50 BMG, and have had to put in baffles so that you almost feel like you are shooting out of a cave. I was shooting my MCR-300 one morning, and the range got a call from one of the development dwellers demanding that we stop shooting the .50s.

I offered to stop by the complainants house and show them that the rifle being used was just a 30-06, but the range master would not give me a name or address.[:)]

If you move into an area, you should accept that which was there before you and not try to change it.

We had a similar fuss at my range. People built homes near the shooting range then complained that it was noisy. Fortunately (so far) they have been unable to shut the range down.quote:Originally posted by Don McManus

Oh I am quite aware. It is no different with these same folks that move out into the country and then start demanding more and more services, and want to raise property taxes to increase these services they demand and before long they are converting what was once a simple, cheap place to live into the same kind of place they moved away from. Yankees are infamous for this behavior, they move away from the high tax, high regulation northern states then want to recreate it down here. [:(!]

I get so pizzed at people who start wanting to change the rules .
they move or build next to a interstate file to the state or county need a noise barrier the traffic is disturbing ( really DDHH) , or the ones that build near a race track or shooting range knowing up front then start screaming about the noise .
around here maybe 10 + years ago a lot of farmers starting posting signs ( due to the housing development's or single home builders )
the sings go in to detail . with some of the info this is a farm animals , smells , equipment are part of the farm . basic STFU and do not move here
some people just need a good old fashion * kicking for there thoughts on change

Was there a big dust up somewhere in the past couple years about a large swine farm that had been there decades before some housing development and the farm was being forced to shut down due to the smell?

I was thinking of having them evacuate the school that is a couple miles away and set up a 5 mile perimeter to keep the scoundrels from escaping the dragnet. [:D]

My brother out in Chicago told me about a farmer who became surrounded by urban sprawl. The poor guy had a day job so he did field work at night. The new neighbors complained and got an injunction where he could only farm during daylight. Plus, he had to replace his tractor's chrome stack with a muffler. After a few years of this he threw in the towel and today his former farm is just another subdivision. At least he sold out for enough to get twice as many acres downstate.
Where gunfire noise is a problem I think silencers should be the solution. Why they are verboten makes no sense to me.
