One Hand? Two Hand?

I'm sure this questioned has been asked many times...You shoot a pistol or revolver(hand gun) with one are two hands? I was trained by Roy Rogers to shoot with one hand unless I was "fannin" the iron...[:o)]

Once every couple of months, I'll shoot left handed. For the reasons Bubba Jr mentions.

The question is how do I shoot, or what is the "right" way?
The answer is actually a bit complicated.
Historically speaking, one-handed pistol shooting was the norm all the way through WWII, and even somewhat thereafter.
Most competitive target-type shooting (EG NRA bullseye, Olympic type pistol, etc) is typically done one-handed, and empirically speaking, the most accurate handgun shooting on the planet is done one handed.
That said, it does take quite a bit of practice to shoot well one-handed, and most shooters shoot more accurately two handed.
In terms of combat-type shooting, two hands provide MUCH greater control over recoil, and nowadays, while the exact techniques differ a bit, all the combat schools teach two handed type shooting as the dominant/preferred method. As a matter of practice, in a fight, getting lead downrange fast is usually more important than doing it with pinpoint accuracy. There are plenty of sport pistol disciplines (eg IPSC, etc) where two handed shooting is the norm, and I think two -handed shooting is pretty much considered THE norm nowadays.
If you're going to train for "defensive" shooting, then of course you'd want to learn to use both hands, and either hand by itself, because you never know which hand(s) will or won't be available for you in an emergency. EG, your dominant hand may be injured or otherwise unavailable for shooting, and you may have to shoot one-handed with your non-dominant hand.
And how do I shoot?
Well, for bullseye type, I shoot one handed, right hand.
For centerfire or "fun" shooting, usually two handed.
For my CCW, I shoot mostly two handed, but also some just right, and some just left for practice (as above).
When I want to know how tight a group the gun can shoot I use both hands and as stable rest to shoot from as I can come up with. Doesn't matter if it's a handgun or rifle, I'm trying to take as much of me out of it as I can, see what the gun can do.
Shooting a handgun for self defense I practice both two handed and one handed. Mostly two handed.
Oh wait, that's something else.
"PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I practice 4 ways. Right hand only, right hand with left hand support, left hand only, and left hand with right hand support. I figure that old age, or a wound will make one of those styles necessary some day, so I might as well be somewhat proficient in each one.

sometimes I even use my feet.
the question wasn't about your * technique.

Handless... i.e. NO HANDS. VIDEO LINK
OMG!
TWO hands. One "pulls" and the other "pushes". Was taught this way to steady the firearm and for me it works. Object is NOT to "hold" on the bullseye but to squeeze when the site passes "to" the bullseye. Practice, practice, practice[;)]
