Every time I try to save money on repair work,

I cause myself more problems.

The start button on the digital control panel on the front of our GE stove stopped working (stays depressed). OK, I thought I would just purchase a new control panel which I did on the internet ($100.00).

I know over a period of 17 years part numbers are changed. All of my searching on the internet indicates the new one (different part number)I bought replaces the old one. Unfortunately, the wiring connections are not the same as my original one.

Looks like I'll end up contacting a repairman anyway costing more money.

Burned again.

Yep, I got one of those one time, had to carefully extract the pins and wires from both the old connector and the new one and swap the plastic part. The "water" button on my fridge is showing signs of putting up with two teenagers so it is only a matter of time before I need a new control panel. I've replaced one control board in this one already and it was plug and play. Hopefully the next one will be as well.

I've redone most of the major living spaces in our home. I justify being finished with two philosophical approaches. One is; I'll come back and touch that up later. The other is; no one will ever get close enough to notice that. No one ever asks me to come help them either.

Maybe that is why they are no longer. I have to admit, it would be great if that happened in today's market.

I'd bought the assembly from Checker, so I brought it back to them...it wasn't even dirty yet. Before I knew it, this dude flips open this big book and starts counting out Benjamin's on the counter! One...two...three...four...five...six...seven...and 40 dollars! I was like "what the hell are you doing????"

"The assembly only cost $370 dollars!!" I said. He says; "I know, but it was defective...and you get paid shop labor rates for removing it and bringing back, ... and for putting it back. That's our policy."

Look closely at the old and new parts, you may find the terminals are numbered so the old wires can be matched to the new generic part. I had the same problem with temp. controller.
