Do you have a will ?

...It's something we talk about but have never got around to doing. I've seen what happens when one's affairs are not in order, and the gooberment and lawyers end up with way too much. Luckily, our family has never had money arguments. Still, it's time to make some decisions.
...Creamation or burial? Do I really want to buy a tiny plot of ground, just to lie in? What if I move 1,000 miles away? Haul my dead * back here to be planted?
...Organ donation? I don't think many of mine are viable. Religion doesn't factor into it for me. God probably doesn't want me and Satan is afraid that I'll take over...[}:)]
...Any thoughts?

Since I have a way, it should be self evident.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Cremation makes sense, because it's cheap. Then dump me out in the badlands north of here. I really don't care, because I'll be somewhere else.

I'll just keep walkin' until I see a campfire and cook wagon. As I get close, I'll see Jesus and Charley Russell pokin' the fire with sticks, and telling tales. There are a few old friends that I know will be settin' there with them. Just thinking about it gets me excited.

...In the last few years, there have been houses built less than 50 feet from graves in our little town cemetary. Pools and swing sets are even closer. There are Civil War Vets buried there. WTH are people thinking? I can come up with some pretty creative uses for my ashes instead. I'm leaning that direction.

Yep. The will sets out who gets what, including my guns. My organs? Donated to whoever needs them. As for the illogical argument against donating because the hospital charges? That's plain foolish. Why deprive someone with a real need of a better life because of a grudge against the hospital? Nope, everything goes. Cremate what is left over and find somewhere pretty to sprinkle the ashes. There is no way I am leaving it up to our benevolent paternalistic government workers to decide who gets my stuff and where my remains end up. [:D]

Don't give up on organ donation because you don't think your organs are in good enough shape. Even if the big ticket organs(heart, liver, lungs etc) aren't in great shape, there's still corneas, skin, marrow and such.

I agree that hospitals shouldn't profit from doing transplants, but I won't let my distrust and contempt for system to get in the way of helping people. When I'm gone, they can take whatever of mine still works and give it to whoever needs it.

As for the will, while every adult should probably have one, I don't have any assets worth enough to make it a worthwhile expenditure of time or money right now. Down the road, its on the list of things to do.

I do however have specific instructions for how I'm to be dealt with in the case of being incapacitated from making decisions or dead. I've talked it over with my family and they all know. My father has power of attorney over all of my affairs.

If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?

Yes, and be sure its a living will (I think that's the right term) that deals with incapacitation, etc. short of your actually dying.

After what I have been through recently w/ family members on another matter. I just told my kids I plan to go out $100 in debt and I'm going to borrow the $100 from them! [:D]

Yes, just re did it last year. What you need to remember is that if you do not have a will, the state you live in has one already made out for you and you and your family may not be too happy with it. Cremation for me and wife and living will and powere of attorney set up. Death is the only thing in life that I am 100% sure of.

I keep procrastinating about it. Guess I just don't have the will power to get it done

Yes, I have a will, Im only 26 (to some thats young to be thinking about that sort of thing), however I have two children and a wife and they need to know how things should be when I die. Besides...people in my line of work tend to die sometimes a little early in life.
