Was at the range yesterday... Shoot great with my pistols.... Pulled out my m1 and I was all over the place... Ten inches on average above target.....nine inch groups at a hundred yards!!!!! Normally I print two inch groups in the black at 100 yards with this rifle![xx(]

Understood. Sometimes the old garand gets a little heavy![:o)]
PS, if the first two check out it will depend on the third thing before your guns are returned, I would hate to send them back if you are only going to continue to miss...
Some days I'm on and some days I suck.
A great friend once told me if he has a really bad day shooting at the end walk up and fire right in the bulls eye and call it a day until the next time!
Had a day last fall when I was off. Came in last. That hasn't happened in a long time.

That sounds like there is more than just a bad shooting day. When groups open up by more than a factor of 2, it's usually due to a loose scope/sight (my buckmark is notorious for doing this).

I tend to agree with just a bad day scenario. To go from a usual two inch pattern to ten inch high and scattered group at such a close range is something that I have never seen in a career of shooting the M-1 - other than having a not so good day. Of course, be did not say where the pattern was located on the clock other than high, but that bit of knowledge might also help narrow down the cause(s) as well.
Added:
OTOH, you could be right about it being another type of problem, i.e. in that it might have a shot out chamber, or similar type barrel problem, but they usually don't spread that badly at such a short range overnight, but once the problem begins it gets worse by the day. I'm talking iron sights here, and although I'm experienced with scoped M-1's, I've never seen a problem that produced such a pattern.
