Actual gun question---Mossberg

Got to thinking about getting a Tactical style 22LR with the 25rd mag. Looking at prices, Mossberg models seem to be the most economical brand and I don't want to spend a lot of money. How are the Mossberg models (quality. dependability, etc.)?

When you say tactical, I would assume you mean the AR style mossberg .22 rifle? If so then let me continue.

I don't have one, I have never shot one. But I will tell you what I was told over and over and over when looking for a tactical .22. DON'T BUY THE MOSSBERG. AVOID IT AT ALL COST, DON'T LOOK AT IT, DON'T HOLD IT. RUN AWAY! The colt is almost as bad. Get the SW 15-22. It's twice as much, but it will shoot anything. It's more reliable, it's more accurate and on and on. So I got the 15-22 and I am more than happy with it.

Now that is what I heard from several dealers. Apparently it only wants the absolute best ammo. And it seems it gets really dirt really fast. And a number of them end up going back for repairs.

    There is a reason it's only $250.

If you have an AR-15. I would suggest .22 LR Conversion Kit for AR 15.

Same here. local friend/dealer wouldn't even sell me the Mossberg or the Colt. They tested them all out and S&W was the only one they would carry.

He sold the two Mossbergs to two different fellows for $160 as is no returns!

It's no AR-15 just dressed up to look mean. Kinda like the old bull pups were a 6 shot 500 with an neat stock.

Mossberg took their turkish import the 702 plinkster and put a "cool looking" stock on it.

Came out with a 25rd mag and tada... You have an overpriced item people buy because it looks cool.

Not that I have heard anything bad about the 702 or the ar-15 like 22 but they aren't top notch quality.

Buy a 10/22 and be done with it.

This is certainly an option. However, if you shoot a lot of .22 you will lead your barrel. Most recommend you fire at least 10 rounds of .223/5.56 after every 200 rounds of .22.

Dad has a conversion kit, but frankly loading it sucks. The edges are sharp, you can't just pull the knob on the side and hold the follower down and drop ammo in. It's 1 round at a time humdrum.

If you really want an AR clone dedicated to the 22LR, then look at the S&W M&P 15-22. They run well

Otherwise go with the 10/22 (they even have a factory threaded barrel with flash hider version) and the BX-25 mags when they become available again.

I like the 10/22 over the 15-22 because I can throw the 10 rounder in for hunting and it is flush with the stock.

Wife likes the 15-22 better because she can adjust the length of pull to better suit her

My brother-in-law was looking for a "tacticool" looking .22 rifle for his daughter. He was going to buy a Mossberg, but I convinced him to get a Ruger 10-22 and trick it out. We added a Tapco stock with a retractable M-4 style buttstock, a reflex optic, and a few extra-capacity magazines and it looks downright mean! And the girl loves to shoot it!

I have the mossberg 715T, The mags are crap and wont let you load more then 11 rounds without some modifications(mossberg did send me a brand new one to try and jammed just like the original). The rifle it self is plastic and feels like a bb gun. The sights are out of whack so I put a red dot I had hanging around on mine. It is still not very accurate. I have only shot blazers and mini mags in mine, the both shoot good and have no feeding problems after 500 rounds. It is what it is a cheap .22 dressed up to look like an AR-15.
