so I took a flying leap into the 21st century and got me an ipod. my question is this: I downloaded a bunch of my cds onto it. the ipod of course doesn't recognize the cd's titles, songs, or artists. Is there a way to install this info online or digitally? when I downloaded songs or cds onto my old mp3 player through windows media player, windows media player would look up the info and fill it in for me through the internet. is there a similar way to do this with an ipod? I'm just looking to avoid the laborious task of inputting this data manually.

any help appreciated.

Highlight the songs from one album, right click - > Properties. Then select advanced. You can give all of the selection the same artist, album, year, etc. properties at once.
Also, if you can't find the info.

I've got the same situation. But if he has an iPod and is using it for his computer, doesn't that mean he has an Apple computer and so there is no "right click - >" to use? I have an iPod and Apple computer and I would also like to add the song titles, artist, etc.

ahhh...yes. Sorry, I'm of no use in this situation. Maybe there is a menu you can pull it up from.

You can use an ipod on non-mac computers too.

You're right, and I never put it together, he mentioned using Windows Media Player.
Since he's on a PC, he should be able to follow my suggestion.
As you go thru ITunes you will find settings to retrieve missing info and album artwork. Itunes is what you NEED to work with an IPod, while media player may sync it media player is not the right tool to work with IPod.
I'm not an expert but I have three Ipods and two IPhones and after a long time fighting with them I have come to realize that ITunes once you learn it will do anything you need it to do.
I also keep the box checked to Manualy Manage music and apps. You will find that box after you click on your IPod in Itunes.
As far as Media Player goes, it is made to be used with Zune, not IPod. Yes it will sync but it is not friendly with Ipod.
Use ITunes. Ohh and yes I am using PC, not Mac.
Mac or not its the way to go when using an ipod.
The proper way it to import your cd's directly to your hard drive using itunes.
Open iTunes and click on the top menu bar where it says iTunes / drag your cursor down to PREFERENCES/ click on GENERAL / towards the bottom it will ask you what to do when a cd is inserted... click on the given options and select ASK TO IMPORT CD / you will also notice that it can automatically download song information click that box so there is an X in there / Now importing is as easy as inserting a disk.
Once your songs are in the LIBRARY, you can SELECT the songs if they did not already get the song data from online and look up on the menu bar again. click on ADVANCED and drag your mouse down to GET CD TRACK NAMES.
Sometimes, when music was copied from a copy and it got stripped too many times when it was bootlegged, it will not be able to retrieve song information and you will need to identify the tracks manually.
To input the data manually.. click on the song you want to name so it is selected and highlighted. Use the to menu bar and click on FILE and then drag down to GET INFORMATION / a window will open and you click on the options on the top menu bar which will show you the track info. you can select a field and put anything you want in there. If you have your own music you created, you can fill it all in and submit it so the rest of the world will know the song names for Ole and Lena's polka carnage.
Good luck!
