Depends on the environment. How wet is the ground? Is it sandy? Is wind a factor? Are there other similar cell phones in the area? Sometimes one cell phone print looks a LOT like another.

    Don't all have maps/GPS?

Dave, I would contact Apple Support. Discuss the theft, and possible means for the (Police) to recover the stolen object.

Meet with the LEO Supervisor, discuss the previous officers conduct. Turn over Apple's info on recovery, then INSIST it be recovered. Then prosecute to the max.

Deep breaths Dave. I'd be very careful, as has been said already.

    A quick "A": Yes.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

    what have i missed ?

btw apple does not care about a stolen phone, the worse it can be black listed if it is not paid for, they are a hot item on the theft list because of that, carriers dont even care, they have a buy a new one attitude

my sons was stolen 2 months ago, his ignorance didnt call me for 2 days, i tracked it to the last working location before it was wiped clean
