Watched him in live show at the lake Marian(s) Ballroom in Minn. It is a rather small place but it has been a long time ago.

Great song! That guy had one of the great voices ever heard in country music.

I was working as a brick mason's helper in Atlanta in summer of 1968.
I was a 17 year old rock and roll guy and never listened to country music. Except, I listened 10 hours a day at work, those redneck masons had a transistor radio and listened to the Atlanta country station all day.

So, one day Charlie Pride was singing and Woodrow said to me "Hey kid, did you know that guy is a n*****?"
I thought he was kidding. I didn't believe it.

Anyway, now I drive the big rig across Texas all the time and I listen to the Country Classics on Sirius radio. I like this song and especially I like to sing along when I am "going to San Antone..."

Another great song by Charley Pride is "Crystal Chandeliers."

Not many know but he was a pretty good baseball pitcher. He also worked and lived in Montana in the 60's.

My Dad grew up just down the road from him in Mississippi.

Bet if I dug thru my Albums I would find one or two of his.

Funny Jacksonville NC 1974 country bar. Whites only were allowed in, but they sure did seem to play a lot of his music.

Charley is 83 years old and still singing on tour.

Born in Sledge Mississippi, Charlie was just one of 11 children of poor sharecroppers.

He has my respect and admiration.
    I still enjoy his music.

Met him in Branson, MO about 20 years ago. We were waiting to be seated at the Cracker Barrel restaurant, and he and his wife came in behind us. I turned around and greeted him, he was very nice to talk to, and waited just like us to be seated. He waved goodbye to us as we left. I have always liked his music.
