I think I have heard / read they many businesses and government agencies can reject such payments even if in American currency .
the grocery store I worked at 40 + years ago would not take them . I seen people laugh and dump a bag of penny's on the counter only to have the manager shake his head and say no way pick them up and get out

we have a 5 gal change jar ( old water jug ) several years + ago we dumped it out wrapped the coins and took to the local bank they wanted my wife to write her phone number and SS number on each roll in case one was short a coin or two .. she told them pound sand would they put there information on a roll of coins , they backed down ant took as is

They had a piece on the TV last night about this. It was a little over $2700 and they took the coins. He said he paid $2000 to 11 people to open the rolled pennies and then bought 6 or 8 wheel barrows to get them into DOT.

Yea he got his point across but at what price ?

Coins are minted to pay debts of less than one dollar. Nobody needs to accept more than that. In fact, nobody needs to accept cash, either. It's just one form of payment, like checks or money orders.

When I helped my daughter get her first place to live I wanted to go to closing with cash not change but $100.00 bills my daughter's credit union would not take Cash if it had been me buying the house I would have told them to pound sand but my daughter was getting the loan so I had to play by their rules [:(!][V] Most car dealers will also not take Cash for car and will not take C.C. [:(]They will take Check if banks are open

Yes, you have a comma in the wrong place. 3,00,000 is not right.

Two-word reason why you can't buy anything major with cash: money laundering.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

    Involuntarily truncated, more likely.

Lot of extra work and expense to himself and a lot of extra work for the employees who had nothing to do with his problem. Guy just doesn't seem very rational.

Perry Shooters comment reminded me of my experience in Tennessee one time. I had a client who had to pay a franchise tax to the State of Tennessee but it was late so I calculated it with the penalties and interest, got a check from his business and hand delivered the report and check to a State office in Jackson, TN. They calculated the penalty amounts to be more than I had calculated. I said, no problem, I will just pay the difference with cash. Nope, wasn't going to work as the only payments they would take was check or cashier check. Didn't take cash or credit cards. Wouldn't take my business check since it was not my debt.

So I drive around a couple of blocks and see a bank (AmSouth I believe). I go in to buy a cashier check and this is basically our conversation:

Me: "I need to get a cashier check."
Her: "Do you have an account with us?"
Me: "No ma'am, I am just going to pay cash for it"
Her: "I am sorry, but we can only sell cashier checks to account holders at this bank."
    Me: "Why is that?"
Her: "Because the cash you give us may be counterfeit"
Me.: "Can I get a cash advance on a credit card?"
    Her: "Sure, no problem."
Me: "And then can I use that cash to get a cashier check?"
Her: "Sir, I already explained that we cannot do that because the cash you purchase the cashier check with may be counterfeit."
Me: "OK, you do realize the cash I would be paying for the cashier check is going to be the exact same cash that you just give me from the credit card advance, don't you?"

Still didn't get the cashier check from that bank, but drove around for a bit and found a Regions Bank (same bank as my client) and went in and they sold me a cashier check.

Very frustrating day for me but looking back at it now, it was almost comical the headache I had to go through just to pay the State of Tennessee less than $15.00.
