    about 30 years ago i was at a gun show in Wichita and one dealer pushed past me and asked this dealer if he had seen anything..seems a colt gold cup disappeared from his table....some odd lookin dude carrying a * bag sure got the evil eye after that...never did find out if it was recovered...some time after that dealers started using the coated cable thru guns..once at a fairground flea market in Hutchinson a dealer had an older lady watch her table so she could go get a drink and a guy picked up a boxed set of dueling pistols and asked if the $150 price was right..older lady said looks right so he paid her cash and split...had his thumb on the last zero $1500.. a few people ran out thru the parking lot but never saw him...

    Any of you been to Saudi.

    Thievery is so rare there, merchants leave valuables out and unattended.

    On an extremely rare situation, when the thief get caught, what they do is stunning.

    What kind of moron seller doesn't have a cable going through high priced guns like that? It keeps people from handling the guns and playing with them, too. I've seen no evidence here that it hurts sales, either. If anything, it might help sales, by reinforcing the "this is valuable, because it is locked up" subconscious thinking.

    90% of gun sellers here use those cables. Sucks that we have to do that, but you have to watch out for yourself.

    I agree with Jim . Mine are all in glass cases. We seam to lose a few small items every show. Past weekend a neighboring dealer lost whole can of ammo.

    Many years ago I learned about a family of gypsy's living in KS.

    So this guy burns me on a deal and skips town for awhile, come to find out from other parties that he was a professional thief. His go to MO was to go to gun shows with his small children. He would talk up and distract the table sellers while his children would steal high end accessories and gun parts for high end Colt's ect.

    Now that's a first class scumbag!!

    I can remember way back in the days when my Dad had a lil gun shop & we went to 'gun shows' all the time ( apx. late 70s ) , we never had a problem !!! and years of still going to shows : you could see more and issues !!!

    Before Key Fobs and progammed keys people used to stop at the hardware store while on a test drive and get copied made, go back at night and drive off with the car.

    Please don't blame the victim for the crime. Reminds me of the police chief I heard on the radio once who stated that anyone who didn't lock their doors deserved to be robbed.
