I used to think gun parts were expensive.

Then I started looking at a few parts I need for my lathe. Nothing else I can say but WOW! The smaller the lathe, the smaller the parts, the more they are worth, I guess.[:0][B)]

What lathe, and what do you need? I know where there's junque laying around sometimes.
It's an Atlas 618, identical to this one.
Mainly, what I need is a countershaft. I picked up a decent little motor for it (an old Packard, and it runs fine[8D]) already, and that's about the only thing I'm really in need of now to get it all going. It's due for bearings on the headstock spindle, but I can get them here at any parts house.
I had this same lathe but with the quick change gearbox.
If you had your lathe going you could make the shaft.....[:D]
Yeah, no poop![:D]
Now with shooting if I want a top of the line rifle I would have Speedy build me a 1000 yard bench rifle, I would have $5000 into the gun and $3500 into optics with using a March 8-80X56. Lets say I shoot the heck out of it in one year, 5000 rds and the top quality components cost $2 per shot plus another barrel so my yearly cost would only be $10,500, plus if I mess up while shooting it the only thing that is going to happen is that my groups will open up.
So spend $4 Million and die for one hobby or $18,000 and be frustrated because you can't shoot tighter then a 4" group at 1000 yards.

I never understood thAt about SBRs...if the barrel is shorter, and there is less metal, why does it cost more?? [B)]

You are still paying for the longer barrel. You just don't receive the other "half". Plus you have to pay them to cut it in half.
