Mark,

I seem to recall you posting a pic of 1911 you have that has an extra long slide. How long is it and who makes it? I want to get a new gun and I want it to be something out of the ordinary. I love my 1911. It feels so natural in my hand.

Perryshooter- Mark said it wasn't him. Know anything about long slide 1911s?

I'm finding a few 6 inchers. There is another thread about an AMT Hardballer that is 7. I seem to recall Mark's being 10 inches which seems huge looking at the 7 inch. I hope its not just a case of 6 inches turning into 10 online. [;)]

I am afraid that I own only a single Colt Government which is a Series 70 and does not have a long slide. I am not much of a 1911 fan (I can hear all of the boos and hisses in the forum [;)]) so it was probably not me posting the photos.

Hmmmm... I wonder who it was then. I'm trying to remember what the thread was about. I think it was about trigger pull but I'm not sure.

I would stay away from anything that AMT made. They are hit and miss.

I think it is sacrilegious (spelling?) to make any disparaging remark about any John Moses Browning product.

Now, if you had said, I don't like this or that model of 1911 that we could maybe let slide.

It isn't boo's and hisses you are hearing, it is your conscience (inner voice) telling you that you just made a major error!

    just harassing you.

I would bet if it is a 1911 Perryshooter has it or knows about it. I recall him posting up some pics of a collection of 1911's that would humble most museums a while back.

Hello The reason the long slide became popular was back in the day
before Red Dot sights Many top bulls-eye shooters Liked long sight
radius NRA Finally put a stop on this with a maximum sight radius of
10 inches. note the pictures of these High standards the 7&1/2 inch
with the rear sight mounted on the slide area just makes the 10 inch
    rule
And 2 pistols have both the sights on the barrel the one pistol has 2 eight inch barrels one 22 LR and one 22 Short am one 10 inch barrel
    HSGROUPa.jpg

This picture of the GILES has an extended front sight
this was another way of having a longer sight radius
    GILESFS1_zps78e3038c.jpg
I have a full size Government model with a 6 inch barrel but 5 inch
slide that is one of my current match pistols see picture pistol box
    box3_zps52f05974.jpg
    box1_zps846d2359.jpg
IMHO all this became a MOOT point when the red dot became the better
mouse trap. As far as I know No one make a Top quality Match grade
barrel longer then 6 inches. Be careful what use wish for even a 6 inch slide and barrel can get Heavy

Para- Ordnance used to make one I think it was called a super hawg. AMT made them in 6 and 7 inch IIRC.
