New NR bidder???

babunbabun Member Posts: 11,038 ✭✭✭
edited March 2011 in General Discussion
I hope this question {or rather MY worry} is not against the posting rules. {But then again, some of the recent "waste of bandwidth" posts should be against the rules}.

I have a rifle on auction and the high bidder is new and NR. And I mean NEW !! He registered just 4 days ago. Please, I know everyone starts as a NR, But I just can't seem to think this auction will end well. Your thoughts, please. Explicitly from you sellers here. Thanks, Bob

Give it a chance...you never know what will happen...and if it does fall thru, well you can relist...BUT that bidder could prove out to be one of your best buyers too...

Everyone deserves a chance...let the person prove themselves..

My brother registered the day he made his first bid and won an auction a few weeks ago.

Like previously stated, we all have to start some time.

I've had nothing but good luck with NR auction winners. Most are excited about winning their first auction, want to ask questions about the best way to pay and handle things; "Just tell me what to do and I'll do it!" and all of them want to see that first A+ in their feedback.

    Babun,
Instead of burning an ulser about it by worrying how about you contact the potential buyer and thank him/her for bidding and find out their story.

    Be proactive not reactive.

get his number and call him if you're nervous.

plenty of people dont register until they find something they like, or find something they like shortly after registering. the time between registration and first bid is positively irrelevant.

No it wasn't. It just that I don't sell many guns, I'm NOT in the gun selling business.
I had this one for about 6 years and now I'm moving away from collecting WW2 stuff and need money and room for the new addiction.[:D]

Well, I sold a Dan Wesson last week to a N.R. ...Followed through like a PRO...better than anyone one else,,,Give it a shot..imo..the worst is relisting and the best is a good price for that carbine.
    imo...[:)]

I have walked many NR bidders through the process over the last couple of year. They are usually good people that are just new to buying guns over the internet. They are usually the most appreciative and leave the best feedback[:D]

Seriously, don't worry about it. If he just registered and already bidding it probably means he just got his tax return and found something to spend his money on after just a little bit of looking. Good for you, he choose to spend it with you.[:)]

I've had several NR bidders win my auctions. Have never had a problem with any of them. Its a good probability he regestered so he could bid on your rifle. Worrying about it isn't going to change anything so the best thing you can do is let the auction play out and see what happens. He may end up winning the auction and being the best buyer you have had. If you are concerned about him just hope he gets outbid.

you just described me on my first buy to a t
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

A few of the guns I sold went to NR or low feedback volume buyers. Never a failed deal and they all got A+ from me.

Only auction trouble I had here was a NR seller who refused to sell at the final bid price.

You put it on auction to reach people didn't you?

If they are eligible to bid then it will just take it's course. I looked for something for weeks but didn't register until I was ready to buy something. So I was a NR bidder on for 1 day. A business like this doesn't run if only dealers are selling to dealers. It takes new blood.

Will this new bidder follow through, maybe you will find out. My guess is the odds are in your favor, but occasionally the odds catch us.

The buyer must send you the payment 1st , before you send the rifle to his FFL .

    I'll agree with MFI .

Don't worry about it until he asks you why there is a backwards bullet stuck in the end of the barrel. You don't have to send him anything until you are comfortable with payment and address.

FYI i had a cetme for sell and a guy from NY wanted it, so i contacted an FFL on the gunbroker list and was told
NO WAY IT CAN COME HERE

    DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOUR GUN

    just food for thought.

Just where does a seller get info about a NR bidder that just signed on????? Doesn't GB prevent emails and telephone numbers from being available till the auction is ended?? {and rightfully so...it prevents "side deals"} Thanks for the many good posts from the sellers here.

I believe YOU were a NR rated seller once too.

Yes and a NR buyer too. But my first sale and first purchase was not for a gun that is not allowed in many areas.[;)]

I think I only have 3 auctions under my belt. Ask Kasey. I started out as a new NR buyer too.
  • ZacharieZacharie Member Posts: 1

For me...Every item I lost out to an NR bidder was on high dollar items. Around $2,000 and up. For some reason...I'm bidding on an item and with in the last hour and down to minutes. A (NR) bidder pops in...bids it up against me... and wins. It has happened many times. I have a hard time believing its not a coincidence! How can you loose out to last minute (NR) bidders multiple times? I'm not saying I'm the only one and people are against me. I'm saying there has to be more members having similar issues. Has only started within the past couple years.

  • SCOUT5SCOUT5 Member Posts: 16,181 ✭✭✭✭

Some people sign up because they want to bid on a particular item, that item got their attention and it's something they want. High end auction items are more likely to have this happen.

For all of you that are responding to a post from the year 2011, please go buy the thread a birthday card, go stand in your driveway, and sing happy birthday to the thread. A cake is optional but appropriate.

I was about to say...............................THIS is a necro thread.

  • SCOUT5SCOUT5 Member Posts: 16,181 ✭✭✭✭

I understand the thread is old. But think, moderators are frequently mentioning redundant threads and the search option. A new member researched a thread and asked a new question related to the thread. I considered it respectful to give him an answer rather than make fun, he's new and may want to stick around if he's treated decent.

  • nononsensenononsense Member Posts: 10,928 ✭✭✭✭

I agree with SCOUT5 because his understanding is correct. We do suggest doing searches for some questions simply because there is a wealth of information already in print here on the forums. I also find it amazing that new members are able to find some of the posts made so long ago.😁

The only suggestion I can add is to be sure that the information you find is current and up to date as some guidelines such as labeling have changed recently.

    Best.
