Your homeowners insurance usually covers such a thing however you can better believe youll be getting sued regardless. Hence why your better off just killing an intruder rather than injuring him.

You are liable for anything and everything a lawyer can convince a jury to hold you liable for.

Do you guys remember when the NRA was sued because someone broke into their building and stole a handgun out of the office of a gun editor, the gun a later used in a holdup where someone was killed, the jury found NRA at fault and awarded the victims family 7 million. The jury ignored the fact that it took the thif over 3 hours to break into the office and that the gun was locked in the editors desk draw, seems the lawyer had them convinced that none of this would have ever happened if the gun had been put back into the office gun safe (which NRA admitted was standard procedure), I know NRA appealed it but it but never heard the final outcome

in mass, you are required to do everything in your power to secure your firearms and ammunition from unauthorized use. the da will use the fact that an unauthorized person was able to access one of your guns as defacto proof that you fil in that requirement and the jury will buy it.

In commie states like MA, you're screwed. Which is OK, because if you choose to live in a state that would elect Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank or John Kerry, you should be screwed. In normal states, it depends if you were actually negligent.
