My son and I decided to try and plant a couple small food plots, just a couple o old log lands and skidder roads. I never grew anything but a few tomatoes and peppers.
We are planting a clover mix (crimson, arrowhead, ladino) and chickory (6 point and antler)...we turned in lime as per soil test last fall..NOW do we turn the initial fertilizer in prior to spreading seeds or spread seeds and fertilizer on top of ground and drive over them with our ATVs.

My dad and I would always spread the nutrients and then till them in , no chance of a heavy rain to wash or redistribute the fertilizers unevenly, and also puts it all in the root zone.

."NOW- do we turn the initial fertilizer in prior to spreading seeds or spread seeds and fertilizer on top of ground and drive over them with our ATVs."

Cover the seed with 1/2" of soil and compact it with a roller.
    You need good soil-to-seed contact.
The seeds will stick to the ATV tires.
    Been there.
    Oh, yeah, pray for rain.

OK, now I understand Big Twin. As others have said, I till the nutrients in then spread seeds followed by s thin covering of pulverized top soil or even peat moss. If you use peat moss be sure it apply some water or it will blow away in a good wind.

If you work up the soil, spread the clover seeds on top and roll in. Covering clover 1/2 inch is too deep. Ive also driven in with the tires for years, cant all stick to the tires, Ive never had a problem.

Real simple, spread seeds drag in with chain link, when sprouted pull a hand full when it breaks off instead of pulling out the roots, wait til it's gonna rain an sling some 34% nig
