..I was talking to our attorney this morning and we discussed Facebook. Neither he nor I go there. It's an addiction just like smartphones. I have a dumb phone. It makes and takes phone calls.

My non smart, non camera equipped flip phone allows me to make the two or three calls a year I make.

..My flip phone does have a camera but I've no idea how to even view the pictures, much less load them on to the computer. Everyone that might call me knows to call my land line unless it's an emergency.

I have to confess... I do have a smart phone and I use it regularly.
It allows me to stay in contact with clients and my office.
So, it does effectively let me OUT of the office without forcing me to be out of contact.

I also use it to take pictures on the fly while in the field...
Easier than lugging around a camera or note pad.

And... I do have certain productive apps on my "smart phone"...
One is my TI-86 scientific calculator emulator, which allows me to leave the real thing on the desk.

I also have a pdf copy of Machinery's Handbook that I can access while in a machine shop...
You guessed it, without carrying around the 6 pound book.

I also have a scanner, that allows me to send copies of documents
and several web browsers that allow me access to
the internet for research and communication other than phone while away from the office.

The little "smart phone" isn't smart though... It just allows me to work smarter.

What I don't have are games... I deplore them damn cell phone video games!

I used to carry a flip phone and hated to give it up for the "smart phone".
But, alas... I did. And now I carry a "smart phone". I just know it ain't so damn smart. [;)]

I hated coming into the 21st century...but it was either come in or be left out...I chose the latter...I am a IPHONE 6+ addict....I use it to do many things I could never done with out it...like leaving early from the office to the deer stand....taking pics and sending them to buyers of my products...I even like emailing orders to my whs..works for me,but not everyone...

Just my opinion but NO ONE on this earth is so important they must be in contact with the 'world' 24/7/365 ~ nor are 99% of the population interested in your photos/comments/etc. on facebook.

Also, nothing is more irritating that shopping in a store and some idiot is talking on their cell phone so loud they can be heard all thru the store. Look Bud, I don't give a pooptz about what is going on in your life! Shut the hell up!

    [:(]
    Gotta agree with your comments...

At least about knuckle heads who think they're the only ones around.

My wife and I both have smart phones.

She is a slave to hers. She bitches and complains every time it goes off for an email, a Facebook post, games....sometimes even a phone call.

Mine is a slave to me. It is a phone, a camera, a calculator, an encyclopedia, a dictionary, a map and several other useful tools.

I bought a flip phone last year, when I escorted an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

I thought it would be handy for the operation. It was.

I tell people I bought it to transmit - NOT receive.

I find it funny, when I am talking to someone and it rings.
They stop talking so that I can answer my phone.
I reach down and shut it off.
They look at me like I just grew another set of ears. [:D]
I continue to talk to them.

I just checked. The "Missed Calls" total 50. TRANSMIT - NOT RECEIVE.

I have a smart phone, but I use it for a tool. It does not control me.

I should confess that my first cell phone was in a bag. That was the late 80's/early 90's. A Motorola unit that allowed me to plan and schedule the next project while I was in the Armagossa Valley, Mountain Pass, Beatty, Trona, Morenci, Potsdam, or any of the other far away locales on the current project. I didn't have to burn up a customer's ohone while onsite, drive back to the hotel to make calls, or carry 14 lbs of quarters (remember payphones?)

Now I have more functionality in the little smartphone, and the blessing/curse is that my email is also right there.

But, it also has an 'Off' button. I spent yesterday playing in a golf tournament with a some old friends. Not a single phone was heard all day. If your team/company/business can't survive a day or more without having you to wipe their butts every hour on every decision, you aren't doing it right.

..Okay. I guess this place is "social media". We're guilty as
charged. Some have nothing better to do at the time other than
"talk" to those I consider friends.

is pretty much the same thing except your doing it here on the internet on this site.
