Convicted Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) is scheduled to receive $8,700 per month in government disability pay, as well as a partial federal pension of $45,000. That generous $8,700 in disability comes thanks to Jackson's sudden development of a "mood disorder" as the federal government began looking to indict him. Jackson, who was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, had no history of mental illness during his prior 17 years in Congress. Rev. Jesse Jackson has defended his son's claims of mental illness, stating to the court, "This time a year ago I thought we may have lost him."

They work all the angles don't they. Democrats, unions and Illinois what a great senario[xx(]
Yep, and you and I and many others who actually work for a living get stuck with the tab.
A series of laws, some of which Jackson voted for, were passed over the years to strip retirement or disability benefits from Congressmen convicted of felonies. Those laws have gotten tougher each time. To date no Congressman has fallen under one of these laws.
He served 17 years. There is no retirement with less than 20 years in office. There is a disability plan though. Jackson rather conveniently took ill as the FBI was raising the temperature around him and his cronies. There's lots of opportunities to challenge that he has anything wrong with him. Even if he does, Bipolar Disorder is treatable and rather unheard of to be declared a Disability in the Federal Retirement System. According to news stories that is.
The FBI and DOJ continue to pursue Jackson even with the conviction. He has been handed a bill for $750,000. Property has been seized for sale by the Feds.
If he tries to go after those benefits, I hope he gets hauled back into court and forced to prove his claims. Could be yet another crony or two, wearing doctor coats, to dig out of the woodwork on that deal!
