She's gotten down in her hips. She's never been a very active dog, but now she has a time just getting up. I fear for the worst.

Over the counter Glucosomine and Chondroitin, once a day, you will see a major difference in a few weeks.

Remydil for the pain may be an option. One every few days. My chocolate lab is 9 and he's had issues with his front shoulder the past year and the vet put him on Remydil as needed and it's helped quite a bit. Best of luck to you and her, been there done that [:(]

Why not, in most states she can vote.

I know where you're at....I've lost a couple dogs to old age in the last year...it is really tough to see them get old and have difficulty. Rimadyl or Novox can be an option, Glucosamine and Dosaquin are good for their joints

You might want to ask your vet about Adequan injections. I prefer Rimadyl [carprofen] instead of meloxicam. If she is over weight, it helps to take a few pounds off. There is a chewable product for joint support with MSM and glucosamine and chondroitin plus vits and minerals. Good luck!

My Old cat has joint pain and I started giving him Glyco-Flex. It has Glucosamine in it. Seems to help he is getting around pretty good now at times I have to remind him he is an old fart.

He also really Likes them, If I forget and try to eat dinner with out giving him his (Scooby Snacks) he will not let me eat.

Jim, I think you might be getting ahead of yourself bud.
Yes,....your time with your girl is limited, but there is a good chance she can get some extra time.

Vet will probably give her some prednisone, and while that helps her short term you can start her on some of the other suggestions.

My mothers old pooch took some kind of glucosamine chondroitin capsule for dogs. You simply pulled it apart and put in with his food. It helped for a good period of time.

    Prayers for the best outcome.[;)]

Is that supposed to be funny? Guy thinks he may loose his friend and you make jokes about it?

It's cool, guys. "I have good days and bad days" is kind of a running joke around this house.[8D]
She's been on glucosamine for a year now. I even doubled the dose, with no noticable effect.

Jim,...has your vet ever put her on a low dose of prednisone for a little while before?

My mothers pooch needed it on and off as he got older.
It certainly extended the 'pleasant' part of his life. He had all kinds of hip/back/leg issues.

    Wish you the best bud![:)]

This does work! Did it with my own dog, gave it an extra year and a half, which is worth it to me.

Good luck. The vet should be able to help, combined with fish oil, and any other joint supplements available should make a difference..........

AFAIK, vets will prescribe Tramadol for dogs, when in pain.

X2 on the rymidyl or the generic Novox is what i use from 1-800 pet meds as they will match the cheapest price you find on google. 180 tabs =6 months for my dog @ 90.00. If you get them from the vet it will cost you double that!.
I give quanity of 1 100 mg to my dog daily and it has helped a lot. he is a lab chow mix @ 100 lbs. Your vet will draw blood to check liver and organ numbers and then prescribe the rymidyl
