Was I wrong to pick the smallest member of my crew and ask him to test fire a used Mossberg 535 12ga?? What if I gave him two rounds of 3 1/2" Magnum OO Buck Shot??? What if it was an old gun and the recoil pad was hard as a brick???
NAAAAWWWW!! [}:)][:)]

Pranks are the sign of a secret sadist. Pranks with the likelihood of injury remove the "secret" part.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

He works here in a gun shop and would rather shoot than eat so no one was getting hurt.quote:Originally posted by Rocky Raab

a 535 is what I turkey hunt with. shot a hen last fall with a 3 1/2 inch mag in. was sitting at the base of a tree and had to turn a little sideways. couldn't get the gun mounted really good on my shoulder. pulled the trigger and the turkey went down. but I almost did to. it popped up and planted me on the bottom of the jaw. those things will reach out there. but they also smart a little.

Now if you gave him the same ammo to test a 5 1/2 pound single shot he might fire one and insist that you fire the other.I also wouldn't drink any coffee he made for you for a week or however long it took for the bruise to disappear.

After he shot one of the Marines wanted to shoot it as well. He shot it twice and showed me how red his shoulder was. They like it. I'm old and don't enjoy anything excessive like I did when I was young.[:)]

I like heavy recoiling guns too, standing up. Off the bench they are no fun.

I have a buddy who has a 458 Lott. We worked up max loads for it with 500gr solids. What a blast to shoot. I love shooting old cinder blocks with it. The worst recoiling gun I have ever shot though was a TC contender in 375 winchester and a 10" barrel. It was off the chain. Way worse than a 500 mag.

MANY years ago... My brother in law at the time (long been history now) made 'claims' that my Black Powder 50 cal rifle was a toy... BIG mistake.

I asked if he'd like to shot it once... [;)]

"Sure" he said, adding... "It ain't got any kick... it'll be like shooting a 22 cal anyways."
Sure it will for some, maybe you too." I commented while I loaded her up. [;)]

Now I was normally shooting Mini-balls over 120 grains FF Pyrodex.
The rifle was pressure rated for normal loads of 150 grains FF.
Knowing that it had to be proofed at two times that... I was comfortable in putting that third spout of 40 grains in the bore. [^]

As I capped the nipple I explained to my now X-brother in law... This kicks a little more than you think... Pull it in tight to your shoulder before you pull the trigger.

I handed the rifle to him and he asked about the 'two trigger' arrangement. "Oh... That's a set trigger right there, it makes the front trigger much lighter so that you can have a lot more control of your..."

    BOOM!

He wasn't listening and pulled the the front trigger... I didn't get to say that I had already set the triggers and to be 'careful'. [:D]

He also hadn't pulled the stock in tight and the top corned of the crescent shaped stock caught him right in the shoulder joint. Oops.

As he handed me the rifle... I asked if he'd like another go at it. Which he promptly turned down.

A couple of days later, my sister asked why I "let him" shoot my rifle. I told her I wanted to be 'friendly' and oblige his obvious intellect. She said... "Sure you did. His shoulder is black and blue and he can't lift his arm very high. What did you do?"

Me... "I told you sis... He knew exactly what he was getting into . He said something 'bout my rifle not having much 'kick' too. So I figured he just wanted to shoot it."

Sorry sack of dog turds... He never said something stupid to me again. Served him right.
