I got a dollar bill with that printed on it in Red. It said to go to www.wheresgeorge.com and enter the serial number to see where the bill had been. Has anybody else seen one of these dollar bills like this?

If you go to the site and enter the serial # it will ask you your location...to help do a "paper trail" on the bill[:)]

I did go to the site and entered the number and it said that it came from some place in Tenn.

Now I think about it, I was up there in June dropping the wife off at her dads as he was in the hospital with a stroke. I may have been given it in change then.

its been going on for years. some people get a real kick out of it and go to the lengths to have a special stamp made so they can be the ones initiating a bill into the system.

whatever makes your flag fly i guess...

Several years ago when my oldest daughter was living in Colorado I got one of the where's George dollars here in South Carolina. Just to be perverse I mailed it to my daughter and told her to spend it in Colorado Springs. That should have made someone wonder how the bill made it half way across the country in 4 days.[:D]

WG is fun, I have about 20,000 bills entered. Most of them were entered 10+ years ago, when I had more time to spend on silly stuff. [:D]

Really really really neat to watch how money travels around.

The coolest "hit" I had was when I took a bunch of bills to Costa Rica with me to spend, just to see where they'd go. About six months later, my aunt gives me this bill and said "I got this in my change, you can enter it."

So, I do, and it is MY BILL! One of the ones I'd spent in Costa Rica! How freaky is THAT?

A friend of mine is completely nuts about WG, he is the one who got me started. He has over 100k bills entered!

I think that been going on since they started putting George Washington on the dollar bill.

It was a lot tougher back before the internet and you had to write a letter to the organization and they in turn would write back with a response.

Not exactly on-topic, but related. I read an article the other day which said the average lifespan of a dollar bill is only 4 months. I'm sure many live longer (some much longer), but I thought that was a surprising statistic. I would have expected longer than 4 months.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing says more like 14 months, according to signs on their walls in DC.

In Oregon the dollar bills all have a speech bubble printed over George Washington saying "I grew hemp"
