    Mostly A.T.E. is alright.

There are times it seems like folks have real personal issues with each other having nothing to do with the discussion. Kinda' like the dreaded Politics forum.

I read a thread on General Discussion (now locked) in which an Administrator was all over the posting member with threats and assurances of expulsion from something that started on ATE. If that forum is that contentious I don't need it.

Has nothing to with 22 ammo (which I consider to be a legitimate and interesting topic (and if anyone disagrees please feel free to stay out of the discussion). Has nothing to do with whining. And what the hell is with that whining comment, BTW? I never whine. I comment, I observe, I ridicule, I condescend, I elaborate, I opine, I muse, but I never, ever whine.

I say that when a member drags his dirty laundry from one forum into another he got what he deserved. No one knew about Fox being banned from ATE until Fox himself started spouting off about it over here on this side. I always thought the moderators over in ATE were the best of the bunch because they ran a tight ship, kept things on topic and put up with very little of the crap that we see daily over here. Apparently Mark and Fox had made a private agreement but Fox wanted everyone to know he'd been banned from ATE and Mark was willing to confirm it. Based on my understanding the other two mods wanted Fox banned entirely from Gun Broker while Mark took pity on the guy and kept his account open so that he could continue to participate...Which is more of a curse than a blessing for the rest of us!

Speaking of moderators Doc (a doctor with no PhD), I recall when you were moderating you were ranking just above ECC. Did you get booted off staff or call it quits?

I'd say that the OP rules the roost in that area. Ego? Why else select the user name Doc, especially when your terminal degree is not a PhD? I have the same type of post graduate professional degree but I am sure not going to refer to myself as a doctor because my degree does not rate it. This thread is nothing but a chance for him to take a swipe at Mark as well as give his opinions on how the forums should be run. Back when he was a moderator he just loved hearing members opinions on how the forums should be run and what was wrong with the staff (I understand that you folks now use green for sarcasm). ATE is probably the only GB forum that has rules for behavior which the moderators are actually willing to enforce. I see nothing wrong with that at all but if you can't deal with it then stay clear.

Man, it is good to be back!

Simmer down Mike, it sounds like you are itching to pick up where you left off. Yes, ATE has rules for behavior and the moderators are strict about them. That is the way we play the game over there and I believe that the majority of members also appreciate the no nonsense (not a pun) approach to moderating. Naturally this does not include everyone on Gun Broker. The staff in ATE does not lose arguments with forum members, cannot be intimidated by the membership and no one moderating over in ATE is going to resign under pressure. That is a fact. When a member emails me, as an administrator I consider this to be 100% confidential and not for use on the boards. The only other person who might hear about it would be Nunn because I value his input on forum matters and I often consult with David. In this case the "event" occurred over Christmas and Nunn was totally occupied with family matters, which is understandable. The other two ATE moderators wanted the "death penalty" applied in this case but I have something of a soft spot for long time members and feeling that a total ban was too harsh I pulled rank, overturned the notion of a total ban and kept it as ATE only. The mutual agreement that was made with the member in question was not publically announced in the forum but it took him virtually no time at all to tell the world about his banned status in ATE as a sort of badge of honor. If he was fishing for sympathy I think he found it sorely lacking with his peers. So far as I am concerned once you drag what was supposed to have been private out into the forums all bets are off and I spelled out his status for everyone to see.

I do not want to ban anyone and as an admin I think I show a lot of restraint. You can look through the GB membership list and see a LOT of locked accounts and user names replaced with N/A. I knew a lot of those folks and I would have never banned them but once an admin locks your account professional courtesy means that only that admin will be the one to unlock it. As a forum member I feel that I made many valuable contributions to the boards. As a forum moderator I felt that I did a good job and fit in nicely with the other ATE staff, which had a no BS approach long before I began moderating in that forum. As an administrator I feel I show restraint with the members and give everyone a fair shake, whether or not I agree with their opinions...Which I very often do not.

Kristov, I have an Ed.D. That's Doctor of Education. No, it's not a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy). The Ed.D. is generally considered inferior to the Ph.D. but it is indeed a doctoral degree and the holder is entitled to call himself "doctor." This is my professional title and it's how I am addressed at work.

As for my moderating history, you are correct about me being hated. I was detested. I was loathed. I feel that I made some mistakes getting started, but that most of the vitriol was undeserved. Made no difference what I said or did, I was absolutely despised. I was blamed for everything whether I did it or not. It started immediately and apparently has not relented with the passing of several years since I resigned.

I offered to moderate, then nunn fired me. Then he asked me to come back and I stupidly agreed. After some time period of abuse, insults, false accusations, threats and general complaining I quit.

For once, I agree with you 100% Mark. You and I do not always see eye to eye, But you are fair and I respect your opinions because you are intelligent and knowledgeable about guns as well as other things. This poster was looking to have everyone join in his fight. Your evaluation of this whole matter is spot on.

My mistake and I applogize. I hold the same type of terminal engineering degree and in my field that professional degree does not rate the title of doctor, which in engineering is granted only to those holding a PhD. I will give you your due, Doc.

Your own comments about your moderating covered everything that I had wanted to say about you so no harm, no foul and lets get off to a fresh start.

+1 One thing is for sure, there's plenty of entertainment in both forums.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain
