You would think they could manage to have a reliable engine & power train in that 4.4 billion dollar ship to get through the Panama canal from the east coast to the west coast!

USNI News, a publication of the U.S. Naval Institute, reported on its website that the ship was in the canal when it lost propulsion. Crew also saw water intrusion in bearings that connect electrical motors to drive shafts, the website reported.

USNI News also reported that the Zumwalt suffered minor cosmetic damage. The ship had been scheduled to arrive in San Diego by the end of the year to start the activation of its weapon system, the website reported.

That whole program has had issues from the get go. I personally blame Obama and his "administration".

You do realize tin foil boy (aka serf) that story is from September.

Can you PLEASE try to stay on current events and not 2 months ago???

I saw a Zumwalt class, didn't catch the hull number, may have been the Zumwalt itself docked at Naval Station Mayport a couple weeks ago. We were fishing nearby when we were down for the Notre Dame - Navy game. Interesting looking ship. But it wasn't moving then either, probably a coincidence!

Over-priced ship that could be sunk with a wave of about six anti-ship missles that cost a fraction of 1% of the cost of that ship. At least one would get through its defenses. Oh, but we don't fight other navies anymore. We fight asymmetrical wars. [xx(]

Another boondoggle for the tax payers while Congress keeps spending like crazy and raising the debt ceiling to fund all their pork barrel programs!

The Military needs to get better programs and designs out of their contractors!
