Lawn mower problem

Ok, my rider w/15.5 Briggs engine ran fine the 1st use this year. Now it will start and run normally. But will die within a few minutes. Usually will not re-start until cooled off. I've cleaned the air filter. Drained/refilled gas tank w/fresh gas. No help. Spark plug looks good. I cleaned it and reinstalled. Still no good. What do you think, New spark plug? Any other ideas?

15HP Briggs rider. Gas in the oil. Trashed or repairable at reasonable price?

Picked up a yard machines 36 inch rider on a junk run yesterday. Looks like new, was new in 2009. Brought it home, filled it with gas and a jump start, runs like a top. Everything works, mows great but It will only run in full choke. Take it off choke and it dies. Mows like crazy even in full choke. Suggestions?

Carb jets are clogged by ethanol and junk from storage with cheap crap gas. Easiest is carb replacement entire.

Might be able to fix with a remove carb bowl, blow out with air, clean and reassemble, followed by double strength Sea-Foam mix in gas tank.

Yeah the carb is dirty. I'd take it off, disassemble it and soak the parts in Pinesol cleaner. It's better than carb cleaner as far as dissolving the gummy build up.

I'd suggest watching a YouTube video on how to clean the carb, but the suggestion on simply replacing it is quite valid. I imagine you could get a new one off of ebay or Amazon for $20 shipped, maybe $25, and at that price it's easier simply to replace it.

Forgot: On ebay are rebuild kits, including the carb and a fuel filter and fuel lines and so forth. The kit generally costs $5 more than just the carb, but are well worth it.

Replace fuel filter. Get a bottle of Mechanic in a Bottle (Wally World) and run a tank of gas with that in it. If that does not do it, rebuild/ clean carb. Seafoam also works.

Quit fooling around and just have Juan and Jose to mow your lawn, but first hide all the female members of your family. Take pictures of everything you own for the insurance company and the police report.

Well, I think you have it reversed,,you have it in run mode and think you have it in choke mode...I am serious...Never seen a mower run FINE in choke mode no matter what.
I had a Chinese cycle that was backwards in the manual !! I was trying to start it in the run mode instead of choke, after I figured it out it ran fine. YMMV

I have an old crafstman tiller that will only run at half/three quarter choke, stop by and I will show you one that runs just fine only in choke mode........... no more tilling than I do a year, figured it wasn't worth the money to fix it, as it runs good enough to do my small garden.

No, it's in full choke mode. And it's the only way it will start as well. But it sure will run untill you start to take it off choke then goodnight.

Add gas additive to refuel can to keep the gas fresh. 2cycle oil as a
    top oil may work,use sparingly.
