I've had Chicken Fried Steak at many eateries over the years, but the absolute best by orders of magnitude was at the Stagecoach Inn in Salado, Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rather have fried chicken, or fried steak (with one of the cheaper cuts) or genuine steak. Or meatloaf, for that matter.
We got Chicken Fried Spam right here in N.C. Same thing, it tastes like chicken.[:)]

White gravy nearly brown with pepper, prepared with remaining leftover grease.
Tall glass iced tea.

I was shooting prairie dogs outside Quemado, NM. in the late spring. There was a little cafe in town frequented by most of the townspeople so we stopped there for dinner one evening. The ladies in the kitchen made the best Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes I've eaten. And the portions were HUGE! White gravy with lots of black pepper. No fried okra but the typical Blue Plate Special green beans. Lots of tea to wash it all down.

There is a place in Raleigh that makes a pretty CFS with mashed taters and gravy.
