We got rid of all cattle in 2006. Since then the weather has been nice. Don

I remember hauling water to cattle when it was so cold I had to light some paper to get the gasoline to burn to get the diesel to burn in the tank heater.

Both my sons have said they're glad I didn't raise them the way I grew up[;)]

Always have wondered, which was more stupid to round up in subzero temps, cattle, horses or sheep.
Sold out the cattle in '86 when Gradpa Kenny had his heart attack.
Horses in '93 and the sheep a few years ago.
Do not miss the cold, torching waterlines at 3 AM in the barn.
Taking a tractor to bust drifts so the cattle and horses could get to the barn.
Why is it, when a storm front comes in, they all want to go to the farthest corner of a pasture, then bawl like babys?

I don't envy that life style. When I lived with Donna at the farm, I hated taking care of the livestock and especially the damn pigs, Those MFers bite. The worst though, Picking corn, especially when no one tells you not to wear short and a short sleeve shirt in 90+ heat. You learn stuff real quick.

I have upwards of 200 head year around for many years. I worked a full time job until I retired and still looked after the cattle and all the other things that go with them mostly by myself. My son can be great help when he is around.

With me it's sort of the opposite. What I don't miss about cattle is giving the penicillin shots for pinkeye into the under side of the upper eyelid on a 95 degree day in July or August. The old cows didn't like it either and remembered the next time we tried to get them in the squeeze chute. But,I do get a little nostalgic when the tractor bounces over an old cowpath hidden in the grass.

I have days when I get frustrated at work and think that for two bits I'd sell my tools, buy a decent saddle, and go back to cowboying for a living. Then I remember how cold/hot it could get and how bad it hurt sometimes! Still miss it though.
