If you and your buddy are out in the desert, far from any water.
You get into some sort of accident. Your buddy is hurt and can't move along. You have enough water for one day for both of you. Help is 2 days away. What do you do?

He's not going to die of dehydration in the two days it takes me to get to help. And a 2 day hike out is probably a 1 hour helicopter ride back in.
This is all assuming we are in a desert in America of course.
Brad Steele
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Can go 3 days without water.
I worry more about being ambushed.
I would make him comfortable and head out with the water. Better one survive and get help than both dying. If I had a second container, might leave a small amount, if he is conscious enough to know it.
Sonoran desert is loaded with succulents that store "water" inside.
Even the Jornada Del Muerto has critters & plants that can be used for sustainment.
Those cars whipping by on the freeway have water, too.
Help would be coming to me. If I'm in a life or death environment like a desert, people will know where I am, what my planned route is, and they would know to call for help when I didn't check in at a way point of some sort.
I would also perhaps find myself 2 days from help, but no way would I be on such a journey where there was no known spot to replenish water and other basics.
I'd prepare a signal fire and a shelter, know help was coming and evaluate if it was worth a trip for water. Probably not.
Is it a Snow Skying Accident ???
What kind of goofy question is this ??????????????
Thanks !!!
I Grew Old Too Fast (And Smart Too damn Slow !!!) !!! :?
depends, how good of a buddy is he ?
No more like how hot is his wife/girl friend.
What do you do?
Get them Stable-
Make signs visible for aircraft.
Make a dew Collection for water.
That would be my first reaction the rest is dependable.
And these days you can buy a dedicated personal GPS 911 locator beacon for about a $100.

Let him have the water, I'll keep the beer!
You don't have time to be asking us what to do![;)]
