Why would anyone pay more than the buy now price? Have I missed something here?

simple, look at the bid history
flamer guy bid it up to the reserve, once it got there, the BIN is disabled.

If you click on the "?" mark right next to the buy it now message this is what you get:

"Some items may have a BuyNow! price. The BuyNow! Price is publicly posted in the item listing. If the item has a BuyNow! Price you can immediately purchase the item using the BuyNow! Price option. You must use the BuyNow! option to purchase the item immediately. If you bid the BuyNow! Price you will not immediately win the item.

Be aware that once the bidding for an auction meets or exceeds the Reserve Price, the BuyNow! feature will be disabled and the auction will run until its scheduled end. The BuyNow! feature will also be disabled if the bidding meets or exceeds the BuyNow! price if there is not a Reserve Price."

    Does that clear it up?

Some people get addicted to bidding. I see this all the time on fleebay. People will pay more for something that they can buy at the store, just to say, I won it.

Looks like a pretty obvious case of shill bidding.

I have used BIN quite a bit. I just hate to get into bidding wars. If I bid, I bid what I'm willing to pay and if someone goes higher than that, so be it.
