my family's name, I always thought, was Czech. my great grandfather was an officer in the Prussian Army (must have moved there) and married a Polish woman; one look at my grandpa and there is no doubt of his eastern european heritage.
so I looked on this website that tells you how many people have your last name and where they are.

and it said... Tunisia! there are 14,000 people in Tunisia with that last name and it's the 70th most common.
in the USA there are only 1800 people with that name and it's the 17,600th most common.

ancestors must have moved there during a military campaign and stayed. that's the only explanation I can think of.
the website can tell you what any last name means. except that one. they didn't know. [:)] I know what it means but I'm not saying.
