His dad died about year and a half ago, he has one more year left in college, UAH Aerospace Engineering. Really good kid likes to shoot too [:D] Anyways, either Honda Civic or Mazda 3, what you guys think?

It depends on the specific cars in question if you are talking used. I would go with Honda other things equal (over all condition - mileage, rust, interior, upkeep records). Otherwise take those things into consideration. New car - Honda.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

If he really likes to drive the Mazda 3 would be the best. If he wants a boring car that will be as reliable as any appliance then go with the Honda. If he wants the best var in the class he will want to look at the Hyundai Elantra.

Well, he went and test drove different cars. Honda Accord is what he chose, end of the month tomorrow, got a best out the door price $21k. Is that ok? We are suppose to go and pick it up tomorrow.

that depends, there is about a $12, 000 price range from the low end entry level 4 cylinder LX manual that is about 22k To the V6 EXL that is loaded that list for about 34k
    LX with automatic, just basic.

I just got a '13 for my daughter. Her drive to class is in some pretty brutal traffic... (I've only gotten to drive it twice so far, but she and MrsFun are going out of town for a baby shower this weekend, so I will put some miles on it)

I'm down to only one gas vehicle, but RaceTrac has started selling real gas at a pretty good price.

Go with the Honda. I bought my daughter a new Mazda 3 when she turned 16. It lasted 4700 miles then she flipped it and totaled it. Bought her a second new Mazda 3 and it lasted 16,000 miles and she flipped it and totaled it as well. Her third new one was a Toyota Corolla. It has over 100,000 miles on it now and she has managed to keep it on its tires. One thing I can say good about the Mazdas is they are really safe. She walked away unharmed both times. And yes, my insurance rates are extremely high. [:D]

That is crazy... I'm getting diesel for $2.37 minus kroger points. Regular (Ethanol) is running $2.50 to $2.99 Real Gas regular is about 30-50 cents more....

I have driven both, and I like both. If new and properly taken care of both will last a very long time. Honda will probably have a higher resale value....of course that could change in the future.

Hard to say what a good deal is if you don't know the MSRP.
    Sticker was $23,750.00
