You got a chicken beak with your breakfast sausage?!? I guess they really did ease up on boot camp. I didn't get no chicken beak with my breakfast sausage. Come to think of it, I didn't get no breakfast sausage. [:D]
When I got to the fleet they did have eggs on Sundays, sometimes. [:)]
I might add I swore I would never go back to Fort lost in the woods, to damn many rocks, snakes and Hills. I met a girl in KC and went to meet her Parents her mom was working at the dental clinic that served our company, her dad was a boiler tech at the fort. My future wife was working at the fort for the summer when I was there, didn't know her but found out later.
I learned when you don't have to crawl on the rocks, climb the hills in army dress the Ozarks are beautiful and I have been married 39 years. Yes I go back

Of 200 in Company: 50 NG's; 50 ER's; 50 RA's. The rest US's, i.e., Draftees. ALL 50 Draftees got 11B MOS. After Basic, all NG's & ER's went home. RA's to AIT for whatever they signed-up for - NOT 11B.
Don't know where they all ended-up. As for me: RVN 11/69 to 11/70.

I know of a John Oliva from Milwaukee and I live there as well
I was at Parris Island during the summer of 1967. I was in 3rd battalion. The new brick ones. Hot as hell, and something no one would choose to go through a second time.
I have a ? since you were there at almost the same time. Did the DI's beat the hell out of the recruits in your platoon? Kick in the stomach, bite, punch in the face? My Father was at PI in 1944 or 45, and he said they didn't physically abuse the recruits. What the hell happened from then to the mid 60's?????

A kid from my high school went to Parris Island in 1967.
I went to a tough redneck high school on the outskirts of Atlanta.
Some tough, *-whipping redneck boys went to my school, and Dennis Ross was the baddest of the bad.
Dennis joined the Marines. He went to Parris Island in early 1967.
In three weeks, he was back home in Chamblee. He had a black eye and a messed-up arm, in a sling.
The story was, that in the second week of boot camp he had had enough of the DI.
So Dennis walked up to the DI, in front of the entire platoon and just jacked his jaw.
I mean, Dennis wasn't the smartest boy in school, but he had never lost a fight before.
Of course, he had never had a fight with a Marine DI.
The DI flinched a little, spit out a little blood, and smiled, and said "Boy, is that the best you got?"
Then, he dragged Dennis out behind the barracks and beat his *.
After three days in the hospital, Dennis was kicked out of the Marines and given a bus ticket back home.
