Thought there might be some here that would be interested.
Today marks the 47th anniversary of the Fall of Lima Site 85 and the death of Chief Master Sgt. Dick Etchberger, as well as 11 of his comrades. While the Etchberger Family takes time to reflect, we are also are extremely pleased to announce the April 27, 2015, publication of Chief Etchberger's biography, At All Costs.
Written by former California journalist Matt Proietti, At All Costs details Dick Etchberger's life as a true American hero, from his small town Hamburg, Pennsylvania childhood throughout his remarkably successful military career to his untimely death at age 35 in a Vietnam War battle atop a remote peak in Laos.
Proietti is a former community newspaper editor who got his writing start in the Air Force in the 1980s. Like Etchberger, he reached the service's highest enlisted rank of chief master sergeant, though he did so as a reservist. He is a 4-time recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest honor in Defense Department journalism.
The book grew out of Proietti's 2008 assignment running the Air Force news team in Washington, D.C. He painstakingly researched Chief Etchberger's life and career, interviewing Air Force personnel involved with the Laos mission, talking with Dick's friends and family, and researching the historical and political context of the mission at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas.
Chief Etchberger's sons Rich and Cory share their perspectives of their father's life in At All Costs as well, with Rich penning the Foreword and Cory detailing his views in the Afterword.
This 190-page hardcover book includes 16 pages of photographs of Chief Etchberger's life, many never released until now by the Etchberger family.
We are now taking pre-orders for At All Costs which will be shipped May 1, 2015.

I worked with Cory and he did not find out what happened to his Dad until a few years ago.
