Crazy 1950's electrical mess....oh well....

The heater has gone out in the bottom part of the house. Which was expected because we had to replace the A/C in the upstairs this winter, so we figured something was coming with the downstairs soon.

The thing that we have figured out that is blowing our mind is the circuit and how things are laid out here. We really need to get things updated.....but I am afraid to even think about what that will cost.

A breaker flipped the other day and it took forever to figure out what was going on. There is a breaker box outside, a fuse box in the office and another breaker box upstairs......NOW we have found another breaker that 1/2 of the downstairs is running off of!!!! This ONE breaker is running the livingroom TV and all the gadgets that are hooked to it, three plugs in the living room, the front porch lights and the downstairs bathroom plug...not the lights, just the plug??? You have to actually GO UNDER THE HOUSE to get to this one breaker!!!!

I hate dealing with mess like this.

I know what you mean. The last place I rented was over 70 years old. The whole house was running off one breaker. The landlord tried telling me it was upgraded with all new wiring. The only thing upgraded was the main service.
He wanted 90k for the place. I moved out as soon as I could find another place.
