I have been surfing, including here, 80% of the time on a now 3 year old tablet.

More comfortable to sit on the couch than at the desk.

Recently the French company Archos updated their line, and they can be found at B&H Photo's website.

Having a GPS is important for me because it doubles as a car navigator.

You want to get one with Android 4.x these days.

I have a Kindle Fire HD, and it's great for what it does. But surfing the net, is not it's strong suit. The browser, Silk, is slow, and Firefox is not yet compatible with the Kindles.

iPad is easy to use. Plus it has a name that sounds like a feminine product.

Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain

I got a Kindle Fire HD for Trista and the boys have the Nook. All of them are happy. Both these tablets stream netflix well and Trista uses the Fire to browse the web. She hasn't complained that it is slow, but I'm not sure how it rates for speed.

I don't know that she would want to do homework on it as I would think that one would want a keyboard for typing.

I almost bought her an Ipad mini. A friend has one and prefers it over his Ipad.

    Good Luck!

not usually a fan of apple products specially their computers mainly because I have grown up and used microsoft most of my life. But an Ipad for the ease of use and the amount of accesories is probably your best bet. Kindles are ok with the funtions they have on them now besides book reading, but I dont think youll get what you want out of one.

Ipad is going to be simple to use and always work.

I don't believe we have ever run into that problem in our home.

For what you are describing, I'd go iPad.

If she traveled the world and needed free wifi downloads of magazines and PDF files from home. It's hard to beat the kindle. If she was 12 and needed strong parental controls (including a total screen time used today ) filter. Go with the kindle.
If she's going to be reading the NYT top books for summer in direct sunlight at the beach, go with the kindle. If she wants a monthly unlimited book access for age appropriate titles and nickelodeon and Disney reading primers, go with the kindle.

But for everything else, get the iPad.
