Local Bad Cops !!!

OK : these two idiots worked in a small speed-trap town just North of me : I know Julie , have for years ???

#61557; FORMER CALHOUN OFFICERS CHARGED
Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have
obtained indictments against two former members of the Calhoun
Police Department. At the request of 10th District Attorney
General Stephen Crump, TBI agents began investigating
former chief, Julie Tanksley, and former officer, Charles Godsey,
on April 8th, 2015. During the course of the investigation,
agents developed information that Tanksley and Godsey extorted
two people they had arrested by seizing personal property
until the arrestees contributed money to the police department?s
drug fund. The McMinn County Grand Jury returned indictments,
charging Tanksley and Godsey with two counts of Extortion.
They were arrested, and then released on $4,000 bond.
They are pictured below, with Tanksley on the left and Godsey
on the right. Tanksley is currently the police chief of Graysville,
TN.

    In my opinion, cases like this should have a penalty multiplier. Charge them for the original offense and then tack on 10 years for abuse of public trust.

    Sounds like an incident from a few years ago down here in Texas. A little speed trap town on US59 would forego speeding citations if the offender agreed to make a contribution to the department's police officer association. The State disbanded the department. Gave us good cops a bad name. [:(!]

    They Ought to take a bunch good police officers and let them take them out behind the wood shed

    If they were committing the crimes then they should serve the time. It amazes me that people thing they can get away with behaving in such a fashion.

    Once upon a time those of us who work entire careers to be of the "good variety" were able to deal with those who behave otherwise. Unfortunately, in this day and age along with the climate created by the former DOJ, WE'D be the ones on the wrong side of the bars. Respect and trust, indivually and public, have to be earned, and one or two bad actors in our profession lead to all of us being painted with the same brush.
