Has anyone ever used this model? I'm looking for a decent one. I don't need the best, but I'm not going to get a $30 piece of junk. I'm not looking to be a speed devil or anything. Just want to feel a little more secure doing 5-10 over the limit. I'll also take recommendations. This one seems to have good reviews but who knows.

The Escort Passport 8500X50 has never let me down over the past several years and has prevented me from getting several tickets. Escort has some newer, more expensive models now, but this model continues to serve me well.

If your detector goes off you are too late

    They are using LASERs
Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.

Instant on lasers will get you as soon as the detector sounds. I just stay within the limits.

been using Valentine for years none bettter IMHO None of them will allow you to run 100 MPH but they will save you at 10-20 over if you pay attention and the law has a habit of setting up just pass a speed limit change.

Valentine remains the best but you need to driver a LOT to justify the price. In the battle of microwaves the field of play, which was once fairly equal, has been totally turned upside down by lasers.

The only universal, and my preferred, method of not getting speeding tickets.

Trust whatever gizmo you like. With the incredible proliferance of lidar over radar, the VAST majority of detectors are rendered worthless.

Speed if you want, but accept the consequences of you get caught. If that's too much risk for you, slow down. It is literally the only universal remedy to speeding tickets.

The experience I've had with a detector has been if the cop gets a visual on you and then turns on his system, it's too late for it to do you any good. Around here, you might get off with a warning UNLESS you have a radar detector, then they most often give you a ticket 'cause having a detector indicates an intent to speed.

If the LEOs know what they are doing, they just "snap shoot" like one might do in quail or grouse hunting. [:0]

They need not leave that rig on and going like watering a yard with a hand held hose. [B)]

The radar detectors don't often help when they are doing aerial speed surveillance either! [:(]

And they're paid for by taxes that you already pay.

I find that if you stay within about 6 mph of the posted limit, cops won't even look at you. They don't start paying attention to your speed until you get closer to 10 over.

Radar laser guns just a snap shoot and its all over. No detector is stopping that.

    Yes,but a jammer does

Radar Jammer is big time illegal. Get caught using one and you'll wish you hadn't. FCC gets upset if you go playing with radio waves.

Laser jamming is legal. No law against playing around with light. Not yet anyway.

Its not the ticket, its how they tempt you to speed! The traps are set on hillls and other areas, that are declines and inclines....coasting,and excelleration up and down the hills, cause you to run over the speed limit....I was excellerating up a bridge when he blipped me...trying to move over to another lane...the city has been on notice about the traps...he was almost apologetic about the ticket...

it is only a "trap" if you see a sign "No cops ahead" Up hill, down hill or sideways, the maximum speed limit is the maximum.

I used to get a hoot out of parking my motor one the side of the road out where I was very visible. I would leave the power "OFF" and point my speed gun down the highway at approaching traffic.

I would do this for about 10 to 15 mins a day and get no less than a half dozen guys driving by flipping switches and pounding on their detectors thinking they were broken. Iam sure some of them sent them to the factory for repairs that were not necessary.

Not all of us sport bike riders are doing much more over the speed limit than the rest of the traffic around us.

The only ticket I've gotten in the last 15 years (and it was well earned) was in VA.

    Got pulled.

Copper said "you didn't even make an effort to slow down after I pulled in after you"

It was mainly because I was snatchin my V1 off the dash mount so he wouldn't confiscate it. And I was pretty confident I was toast since he came off the median and I was in the left lane.

Still using an older model Escort Passport; and have found I have slowed down a bit in last few years. Still use it around a couple of towns as they are know for speed traps. And Arkansas does have a speed trap law on the books.
