I am sure my moms fix it kit was iodine , mercurochrome and a jar of black drawing salve , and rubbing alcohol ,

Yes you can. CVS pharmacy sells it (about $4 a bottle). Locally you can buy it just about anywhere that sells first aide (band aides) etc.

Mom used them both on me in the '40's. Merthiolate hurt. Mercurochome was great. Anyone that complained about the latter is a puss!

Your favorite wally world has Merthiolate and Iodine, Mercurochrome can be had if you know where to look for it.

My whiny kids were moaning about peroxide on a scrape one day. I told them to be quiet or I would go to Gramma's house and get the Merthiolate. They manned up a bit after that....

I loved the burn of Mercurochrome as a child. The burn lets you know it's working. I use a product called New Skin and it has a slight burn, but nothing like good old mercurochrome.
