Been gone a long time/air comp

All;

Been gone a while, been on another forum (actually I got banned from there[:D][:I]).

But ANYhoo, I've been kicking around the thot of getting one of those portable 12v compressors that plug into the cigarette lighter. Once upon a time, I used to just automatically go to Sears for such stuff, but their quality took a nosedive in the last 20 years or so, so I won't shop there anymore. Harbor freight is out for the same reason. Anyone recommend a good brand for comps & such?

I just buy the cheapos at Walmart. None of them will last long because of the synthetic piston and cylinder.
An old fashioned hand or foot pump will last longer and work just as fast.

I bought a Black and Decker brand and it seems to hold up. It is 12 volt or 110 volt. It's noisy and slow but it has a setting where you set the desired pressure and it will kick off at that pressure. Cost me about $60 I think. I picked it up at a farm supply store.

I love Harbor Freight. Stuff is so cheap that it doesn't matter how long it last. I have bought everything from flashlights to trailer kits from them and I have yet to have anything break or fall apart, maybe I'm just lucky but for the money HF is my go to place. [:)]

I've even gotten pretty good at reading instructions printed in broken English. [:D]

Just by the nature of the beast, I seriously doubt you will ever find a "quality" air compressor that is powered by a cigarette lighter.

I have one that is the flashlight, compressor, inflator combos I bought from wallyworld about 9yrs ago that has a ring that lets you set the pressure. Think I paid about 20-30 bucks.
    Still works today

Walmart, Kmart, Target and auto chain stores are all about the same. $15 - $25 range.

I have a Sears model, I trash picked about 20 years ago.
Replaced the hose and have been using ever since. [^][:D]

I bought a cheapo one at walmart about 7 years ago. I use it all the time and it is still going strong.

Same here. A blue one about 5" in diameter and 15" long
A cheap Campbell Hausfeld. In ten years of use I have replaced the bulb once an replaced an internal hose that popped. Used it last week.

I have an AC Delco mini compressor; works good with my airbrush.

Takes too long to fill a tire...

I never understood the need for one.
if you have a flat, a can of fix-a-flat will get you going.
if your tires are low, top 'em off at the local gas station.

Mostly mine is used for ATV and dirt bike tires. All are Slime filled but sometimes one will go flat after sitting a few weeks.

It may not be concidered cheap but I just spent $60 on a Kobalt, dual powered, programable, 120psi max, tire compressor at Lowes.

I don't trust the stuff at the parts stores nor chinamart and was inna hurry.
Now Iv'e got it and can fill things up in the house or take it outside to the trucks or run an extension cord.

One small prob. w/it. Very short airhose.

    Then I must confound you.
In all my vehicles I have at least:
    4way lug wrench
hydraulic jack (usually in addition to the factory jack)
    12v air compressor
    tire repair kit
at least 2 cans of slime/fix-a-flat

but then again I DO drive 100mi a day round trip to work through mostly rural areas. At least I have Cell service on my daily drive, now going to my parents' house there is no service
