well, last year I decided to learn this whole Golf thing. I played a few courses, with very little help (yeah it gets better). By the end of last year, I could at least drive the ball in a straight line, and use the other clubs to a degree which I felt happy with,..considering my lack of experience/instruction.

TODAY, the sun came out and the temp was 60*,...so my 9yr old and I went to a little par 3 course. WOW, did I suck[V] Everything I picked up last year,..didn't come back. I lost maybe 15 balls, and had 1, YEAH, 1 , good drive.[:(!] I guess I need to stop working so much and play more golf[^]

oh well, it was our first nice day in 5 months.

Golf is a fun game as long as you don't expect to be good at it

The thing is, when you are shooting and don't hit the bull's eye you don't want to wrap your gun around a tree ...... Golf ... not so much.[:)]

Go again,,it will get better,,keep that head down and almost ALWAYS ,you are standing to far away from the ball when driving,,so check that line and feet placement,,that will be 50 bucks for the lesson-[:)]

And I am willing to bet Tiger Woods has never shot in a BR match either. [:D]

My Idea of Golf only requires two items

1 A base ball bat as my driver
2 A pool cue to sink the putt.[:D]

I could be good at golf if I could use an AR-15 with a golf ball launcher to drive, and a pool cue to putt ....[:D]

So far the best use for golf balls I have found is target practice. Throw one out to 10 yards and take a 22 pistol and chase it where ever it lands.

I dabbled a little in golf when my son tried it. I found it quite boring. Even dispite the fact that I sucked at it I found the courses themselves to be zero challenge.......... At our local club I suggested they needed more obstacles in the course. They told me the idea had been brought up but the members voted it down because it might affect their scores.....................[:0]

I accepted years ago that I was never going to be a great golfer. I am decent but no where near great. Accepted that fact and started enjoying it better. I took a few lessons and improved considerably.

You will find the better you get the more expensive your clubs become. At least for me it did. Started out with a $350.00 set and now I have clubs that cost more than that each.[V]

You have to play all the time to be any good. I use to play three to four times a week. I was a ten to an eight handicap. Today I would be lucky to shoot in the 90's [:(]I do love the game and play every chance I get.

A little help for you based on limited given info.

First, before ever stepping to the links you should've spent conciderable amounts of time at the driving range and working on the finer points of the swing.
There are outdoor and indoor ranges you just need to look.

Second, instead of physical driving ranges, pull out your 'favorite' video gaming system and pop in your favorite golf game.

I.E.- I had a driver for our magazine vendor complaining about his lack of game w/co-workers.
A couple of years ago I advised him to stop going to the casinos and throwing his money away and buy the accessories for his game system and play at home during the off season. His game improved and still is.
Several of his golf buddies made special trips in to see me at work and compliment and ask me what I did to help the other guy's game.

Golf is best with a best friend, case of beer on ice, a good golf cart on a hot summer day. Hit a ball, drink,do slides on golf cart, hit it again, drink, do power slides on golf cart, drink, hit ball, drink, try to putt ball into hole, cuss, putt again, say ta hell with it, it shouldve went, drink, powers lide golf cart some more on way to next hole, drink, tee up ball, hit ball, drink. Continue this sorta sport for duration of 18 holes. And if time left, do it again after beer run.

And it's half-wits like this across the country that make the game unneccessarily expensive and unpleasurable to partisipate in.

And it's arses like you that need a good bi*** slappin, for being a smartass... I didnt say it was done all the time. And in no way, did it make the cost go up for anybody, nor did we bother any one on the course. It was a one time event, it just brought back a good memory of a fun day at the course. And ive been several times. So get back in bed and get back out of it on the good side of the bed.

+100 these are the same people who have no respect of others property, I like my beer too, but I wouldn't intentionally tear up the grass or cart on a course just to get drunk. I would bet you are the type of person who takes tv's and such to a shooting range then leave the pieces there scattered all over for someone else to pick up, along with the beer cans...........[V]

back to justc if you really enjoy the game play as much as time and money allow. don't worry about the score enjoy the outdoors and the course and the challenge of the game, I walk 18 holes at least two sometimes 4 days a week, and after two years of such my scores still don't show it. most days I'm in low 80's some times high 70's, and I did have one day last year in our senior league I shot a one under. I do it for the exercize and just enjoy being outside on a nice day.

"Never belittle a shot up the middle," my former husband used to say.

He tried to teach me the game a couple times. I could hit straight, but not very far. Being a softball player for years, I found adjusting my swing difficult to master, and incredibly frustrating.

I'm not gonna get this or another thread locked but I feel the need to reply.

strokn, don't go havin' one on us here, calm down a bit,

A: the activities you described ARE done everyday, every week ACROSS the country, more often near bigger cities and college towns.
I didn't say that you and your friends alone did it all the time.

B: It most likely made the cost of the use of the course go up in more than one way ACROSS the country; more often near bigger cities and college towns.
Owners spread the costs over the price of beverages, meals, equipment/course fees, in the pro shop, maybe parking fees, employees loosing a day of work .
But many are too often buzzed/drunk to notice or care.

C: Other players are always bothered when half-wits do what you described. Either while they're there at the moment or others after the goofs have gone. So it is done ALL THE TIME.
These drunks - young or old - often damage the fairways, putting greens, benches, fences, etc... for a moment of FUN.
Then other serious players come in afterwards and have to contend w/changes in the lay of the field of play.

    DONE.

JustC, stay the course. Keep practicing the swing whereever/however you can like I said earlier on in this thread.
Keep you head down, knees relaxed and have fun.

When I golf, I look like a Caveman killing his lunch!

In order to get good at it, you have to practice, practice, practice! The more you go the better you get, and it doesn't hurt to take a couple golf lessons to give you the basics, otherwise you pick up bad habits on your own.

Put down your driver and use a 5 wood or 3 wood for a while until you get your swing back.

I can't wait until my boys are old enough to go golfing.

The object is to put a very small ball into a very tiny and remotely distant hole, with engines singularly ill adapted for the purpose.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I would love to learn to play but I visited a few golf courses before and between the over educated Harvard style snobs and the drunk rednecks and the drunk college kids it don't seem like a fun place for a regular person to hang out.

More time @ the driving range wouldn't hurt either. That time allows you to find your range w/ your clubs, work on your stance, swing, etc.
