They look like they are the ends of a T-shaped latch for breaking open the action, instead of a sideways moving lever. Maybe.

I can't believe that the seller did not show a picture with the action open! It would get him more interest.

(I think I have this right) -- You pull up and back on the T-shaped lever and the breech block slides backward to extract shells and allow loading the chambers. The barrels are fixed to the frame - they don't pivot like a normal double barrel action.

ifisher has the correct reason for the two knobs. high quality gun but if you grew up with the normal tip down barrel action. IT will take a long time for your mind to convert to this type of action.

I had a Darne here for almost a year...the owner of the gun couldn't decide if he wanted to sell it or not. I eventually got it back to him. In my homework I found out a lot of cool things about them. Taking them apart is a little scary. The stock is one piece and you have to "bump" it out of the action....which is NOT fun to do when it is not yours. Darne is an old name....the son of the original maker eventually went out on his own to make these and I never could figure out how to tell the son's from the original father's shotguns??? Both versions are VERY well made and older....one day I may get it back and I'll go on to learn something more about them. They are very cool.
