BB Gun Wars

Rack-Ops thread got me thinking about our summer time BB Gun wars.
We would split into 2 teams and after an hour so of serious combat someone would yell the secret code and all of us would turn on Gary, a kid that always came to the wars and drove us all crazy! He usually would climb a tree and act like a sniper. That was always a big mistake!!! It didn't matter who's team he was on, he was treated as a bad Lieutenant and everybody shot the hell out of him!!
Middle of summer, 2 pairs of heavy pants, 2 t shirts and 2 sweat shirts!! Double up on sunglasses and aim from mid torso down.
No pump up guns just single shot and cock BB Guns.
Great times!
Anyone else ever participate in BB Gun wars?

I have great memories of BB gun wars in our neighborhood back in the mid 60's. Same rules, lots of clothes, safety goggles or even a welding hood were used by all. Good times, imagine such a thing going on now [}:)][:(!]

Well now we have paintball....way more fun and much safer! And still leaves good welts to boot. The best shots are in the face mask and the filling goes through the air holes and they get a mouth full!

what is the safety glasses and padding you speak of [B)]

last time we had one my brother stuck his head out just as I fired hit him right between the eyes dead center, raised a big old knot and scared me
as we were going in the house he banged the storm door acted like it flipped back and got him.
I decided it was too stupid to continue having bb gun fights ..

I have worked with two people in my life , that were blind in one eye over being shot with a bb gun . early on
sure made me think how damn lucky we all were

    That's what happened to me!

They're problem with me though, was that I knew every inch of the desert we were playing in and they could never shoot me, so they decided to get everyone to come after me!

    I still never got hit![:D]

I got hit in the kneecap on a 20 degree. That was the worst that I had. We spent so much of our childhood shooting at each other.

I was at a disadvantage with my model 25 pump gun. I had to unscrew the barrel assembly and quickly reload 50 BB's. Usually spilling another 50 in the process. After 62 years, I still have it. [:)]

We did quick draw with our pistols. Being as large of a target as I am Still not sure why they always missed me. Could be I was quicker and when you are getting hit its hard to aim.[8D]

Just me and my brother with daisy red rider BB guns. I'd be sprinting through the woods 50ft behind him. He'd find a dense patch of woods or tall ferns and just drop to the ground and disappear. I was never very good at finding him and that buzzard has the patience of a saint when he wants to. I learned to just go back to the house if I was chasing him and lost sight. Got shot in the back to many times

The only thing that I did that can relate to this is shooting bottle rockets through 6 foot sections of electrical conduit, like a bazooka.

we used to cock the lever action one shots and slip a kitchen match down the barrell shoot it on sidewalk and it would light. then we got braver and would shoot the matches at flies on the screened in back porch, till they tore the screen so bad we got our butts blistered for that. Then the ultimate, we took the used kitchen matches and shoved a sewing needle in the end and shot them at each other, now those stung if you hit bare skin, would go thru clothes but not as far......[;)]

We had them I'm old empty farm places. One team would get the house and the other the barn and then assault each other.

We burned one old house down when we added bottle rockets into the mix.

I think as in another post when we were kids the BB guns were just considered toys just a step above cap guns .

I remember the you will "shoot your eye out be careful" but that was about it / even the city LEO who had a talk with me on 1st day I had mine just told me I could not shoot it in city limits take it home ( of course officer [;)][}:)] )

now a "real" gun was a completely different category and had strict rules .

when my kids came along all guns had the same rules and all treated like they could kill someone

I also had cousins ( Hatfield's honest , in Tennessee who would shoot 22's I watched them do it one would hold a target in his hand the other would shoot it out than reverse the shooter /holder . positions
I was just a young kid but even that to me was stupid

Yep, BB gun wars, no rules and I used a pump with the spring stretched stronger. My pump would bury a BB under their skin or punch a hole thru the ear.

I went for head and face shots. Most would quit or surrender before I shot, but some of the weaker in the heads ones required a head shot first.
They wanted to gang up on me but could not get past the return fire and pain.

Noticed that I had lots of kids that claimed to be my friend after the fight, that I could not really trust.[;)] Still have to watch out for such even today.[;)]

If they come after your guns, give them your bullets and BB's first.[;)]

It's good to know that I'm not the only one that grew up in a neighborhood where BB gun wars with all the neighbor kids was 3 or 4 times/week after school. Our rules were "no head shots" and thankfully nobody ever got serious hurt or shot in the eye. A few close calls, but, angels were watching over us apparently. My best friend and I would take on the whole neighborhood kids....5 to 7 against the 2 of us.....we never lost.....but we were shooting pumps and the other kids had red riders or cheap spring loaded guns. Wow, was that fun!
