    And best is the pretty common ones that are rare. That makes them more valuable than the less rare common ones.

    "Rare" is one of the most overused words in the gun-trading business. I have a friend who finds something "rare as hell" at almost every show. In one case, he described an item as "rare as hell" and, to verify his expertise, added that he had sold seven or eight of them in recent years. There's a big difference between "rare" and "scarce." Just the other day I saw a listing for a gun that included the "R" word. I was pleased to see it, because I have eight of them [:D][:D][:D].

    I agree that "rare" in describing guns is overworked and in general not quantified.

    To that end for the purposes of defining rare relative to High Standard, I have created this chart.

    This chart shows that there are 227 production High Standard guns that I can demonstrate the production data for that had production quantities of 1000 or fewer.
