Beach bars take top spots
Apair of Pensacola-area beach bars have been named among the top 50 in the world by CNN Travel.
The article by Anthea Gerrie ranks the Flora- Bama Lounge & Package, 17401 Perdido Key Drive, at 17th on its list of the 50 best beach bars in the world. It was the second-highest ranked beach bar in the U.S., behind Moonsha-dows in Malibu, Calif., which ranked 11th. Gerrie's article called the 'Bama a "semi-dive," but went on to say "it has everything a beach bar needs. Live music. Wet T-shirt contests. Cold, cheap beer, much loved by the solid mix of locals and out-of-towners."
The article mentions the Flora-Bama's signa-ture annual Interstate Mullet Toss, as what makes the 'Bama "truly legendary."
Not far behind the 'Bama, at 24th place (and the next highest U.S.
locale on the list) was the Margaritaville Beach Hotel on Pensacola Beach. Margaritaville was cited for its Land Shark Landing pavilion, fun events such as beach-blanket movie nights and its fin-shaped fire pit, hammocks, live music and kitschy charm.
In total, only four U.S.
bars ranked interna-tionally, so for two of them to be right in our own backyard is a feat.
Congrats to both!
The 'Bama also leads Yahoo! Travel's new list of the best beach bars in America, citing its "hap-pily rough and tumble" attitude and kitschy bra-themed decor.
