Got my new rifle stock from the smith. It's beautiful. Cost twice what I anticipated but it is very nice.
Needed to install the rear swivel. Did the way you're supposed to do it. Center punched the wood, started with a tiny bit and stepped up.
It cracked and split around the hole. Looks like hell. Don't know why. I was being so careful. All I can do is sand that area down and touch up the finish but no idea how bad that will look..
Crap.

Sorry to hear it went south on you.
Maybe an easy inexpensive fix
Sorry Hope You Come up With An Easy Fix Doc
Doc if you can make your "fix" look like was meant to be that way...
It'll probably look fine. Maybe not exactly what you envisioned... But just fine.
ETA: They also have black washers as well...

Would counter boring it bigger and adding a white ring spacer cover it up??? Like these, but with an oversize ring??
Lets just say....I've seen it done before though!!! [:D]

I'm thinking of a thin, brass washer folded to match the contour of the stock. The chips are like 1/4 to 3/8" out from hole.
I wouldn't make it too thin... Just sayin'...
