Who I don't have a clue but just got this notice from the U of O.

quote:Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens announced a change in leadership in the football program Tuesday, ending the four-year tenure of head coach Mark Helfrich.
"We want to thank Mark for his eight years with the University of Oregon and appreciate his efforts on behalf of Oregon football," Mullens said. "We wish Mark and his family the best."

I was expecting a similar email about Paul Johnson, but he managed to pull a W out of his * with less than a minute to go....

What is going to be funny to watch is a new coaching staff begin a 3-5 year rebuilding process...with a fan base possessing 3-5 minutes of patience.

Most Uck HatFans will expect a winning season next year.

With college ball, they COULD turn it around in a couple years, but I think you are right on with both predictions.

they COULD if the new offensive and defensive systems are similar to the old ones. and IF there is a stacked depth chart with lots of 4th and 5th year players, and IF there is a viable ZB to run the new offense.. if the new coach has to resort to underclassmen well it will be a long season in the Pac 10

This could be hilarious. I have been watching websites and FB since the announcement, and it seems a goodly portion of the Uck fan base thinks with a yet to be announced new coach and staff, a team with many players who refused to work or flat out quit playing this year, and one of their better players likely to go pro...the Ducks will play for The Natty next year, or the year after at the outside.

Unrealistic doesn't begin to cover this bunch.

It is an ugly cycle, being top tier means consistent top end talent being recruited. The only way you recruit top end talent is if you are winning, have a reputation of putting recruits into the NFL, and have superior facilities. Once you start losing, especially with talent you are screwed. Notre Dame is a prime example...Brain Kelly is f-ed, it is just a matter of time, thing are not likely going to improve quickly enough.

What is sad is for the last few coaches they just came in and started winning right off the bat. But these coaches were hired from within the system and just kept what was working going.

But this poor new guy has to get a failed system back working. Unless he gets lucky he will not last long.

What is remarkable is seeing what this 'failed coach' has done.

In his 4 seasons, he has been 11-2, 13-2, 9-4, and 4-8. Just two years ago he led the team to the most single season wins in UO history, won the Rose Bowl, and got them into the National Championship.

He has a 37-16 OA record, and he just got canned. Rich Brooks had a 97-108-4 record...and they named the stadium after him.

As I said, this is going to be a hoot to watch.

Whatever happens going forward, I hope it is a colossal failure.[:D]
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Actually if our Running back is smart he will go pro. Another year will not help him much and with rebuilding who knows about playing time and a new coach.
