i wish they still made a smaller 4x4 like my earlier tacomas...i need not a barge when a smaller one does the job at a lot higher mpg, lower taxes, lower insurance cost

Compared to 30K plus for new, a low mileage truck could be a sound investment.

With the price of new I'm thinking about a total rebuild on our 2000
7.3 CC 4x4. The same new is $60K

    Hello Diesel Brothers.......?

    Most vehicles are crap.

Old adage of Guns and Butter.

    Invest in guns not butter.

I buy a vehicle for the purpose of traveling from point A to point B, I couldn't care less how cool I look or not.

My Truck is for hauling 289,000 miles on it.

My Car is for driving back and forth to work. 156,000 on it. Both are paid for.

I rent a car for events and travel, much cheaper then owning.

Sadly I will have to buy something soon, really hoping for a glut of lease turn ins to drop prices a little and pick up something with 30K and remaining warranty, preferably a Hyundi or Kia from the dealer so I get the remainder of the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty.

Now if I played and won the lottery I might splurge on a new vehicle, maybe even two :)
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I know its a personal thing and I know I am getting old but I REFUSE to pay more for a new truck than I paid for my house, Now dont get me wrong,,my house is not fancy,,its a nice rock house about 1500 sq ft on several acres but its mine and its paid for..the last new truck I bought was in 2000, I bought a new Dodge ram 1500 quad cab loaded out, it was last year they put the 318 in their trucks,,I gave $19,000 even cash money. I still own it because I refuse to pay the price for the same truck in the new models

    +1

I like em' also. I had the original Subaru Brat. I loved that thing. It was awesome.

Unfortunately, like the IH Scouts, they rusted out before the mechanicals gave out.

    I still miss mine.

I wish they had made the Baja in a 2 door version, with a slightly larger bed. I'd a been all over it.

Got one .... only it's a 2014 Ram 2500 crew cab with the 6.4 liter hemi. I LOVE IT!

BTW - purchased it used, one year old with 24,000 miles on it ..still under warranty and had it shipped 1/2 way across the USA for about 1/2 of new price at the time.
    [:D]

Also, near impossible here in the midwest to find one that isn't a diesel and all have a ton of miles on them. [:(]

I actually found a 2014 in the area that only has 20K mile son it..for about 8K cheaper.

A Dodge truck is a shipping crate for a Cummins motor, at best.

With a gas motor it is a poorly designed steel nightmare looking for a place to bust down. It also burns gas at an unbelievable rate and has the lowest quality of any vehicle made.

Decided in 1976 to pay cash.

A few times some things were too expensive compared to the work it took to save the money to buy them.

Haven't bought a new car since 1981 and haven't bought ANY cars since 1999 but have made good purchases on cars 2 or 3 years old.

SUV sits in the garage for 10 months a year. Saves on gas and keeps the mileage low.[:p]

i was in a box store parking lot when a BIG shiny (never off blacktop) 3/4 ton 4wd comes dieseling in and cranks back an forth about 4 times to get somewhere in the lines..running boards 2' plus off the ground and this dude about 5' 3" climbs down and adjusts his hat and goes shopping...i about died laughing when he came back with a little yellow plastic sack and struggled to get up in the beast, grabbing for handholds...thought i should to help him in...i don't need that ego booster to survive

No, fuel mileage was the priority so we stuck with the 2.5I, though they did an engine upgrade on the 2.5 last year. It is now dual over head cam instead of single over head, makes 5 HP more but changed the power band, and they upgraded the CVT so the car is much improved in acceleration. It is alot more fun to drive than our 2012 was. We also went up from premium to Limited, so it is much nicer inside.

My Shipping crate 2000 Dodge, hunk of rusting junk with CUMMINS 5.9 [:D] now has 427,000 miles on it. By the time I will have owned it 17 years, in March of this year the odometer will be close to 440,000. It is a awesome truck but I try to be realistic about it. My goal is no less than 1,000,000 miles with it. [^][^][^][^]

My boss just traded off his 09 F-150 gas 4x4 4dr. All of the companies make good vehicles now but they all still produce a lemon now and then.
This particular truck has had the motor replaced, the head bolts replaced, injectors, 2 transmissions, a caliper, front suspension, and....after head had made the deal to trade, the entire driveshaft Assembly.
The hanger bearing went out. You can NOT service the hanger bearing, it's designed so you can't. You must replace the entire 2 piece driveshaft at a cost of $855 for parts.Dave

NICE-- drop a 7.3 in THAT!! or a REAL Cummings.
My wish- 7.3 type CAT motor coupled to an Eaton 8 speed stick/ CC 4x4.

Don't know.. gas mileage isn't a huge concern to me..not bad enough to justify the expense of a diesel.... looks like 13-15 mpg, the same as the 6.2 Ford
