Nothing seems to fascinate an American more than a place he isn't allowed to visit. [:D][:D]

While I was still on active duty, I had a friend stationed there as one of the early F117 test pilots. He said it wasn't nearly as mysterious as a lot of people imagine. Just lots of cool new prototypes being tested. Most never end up as publicly viewed aircraft. They are just testing new concepts. But, the results of the testing of those deadends are incorporated into other aircraft that do go on to see active service. He said that nothing really happens outside until after dark. Then all the lights are killed, everyone puts on their NVGs and the aircraft to be tested that night are towed out to the ramp. He said the pilots had two unbreakable rules. 1. You must be back by daylight. 2. You will NOT land anywhere else for any reason. (If you have problems, point it at the ground and eject.) They would rather lose the craft entirely than compromise it by landing anywhere else. Makes sense.
Still, I'd like to visit some day, just to be see what's in the hangars. [:)]
