We use AMDRO. Basically corn meal w/Boric Acid on it. Sprinkle around foundation and under house. Ants gone in about 24 hours.

    Dumb ants.

Little Johnny is sitting on the corner, squishing ants with his thumb. Stupid, dumb ants. Worthless, dumb ants.
A preacher happened to be walking by and saw little Johnny and hearing him making the statements and seeing him killing the ants. says, "Son, what are you doing?".
Johnny says "I'm squashing these dumb, worthless ants. There's no use for them".
    (P) Son, son, everything has a purpose and place for all of God's creations.
    (J) Not these dumb, stupid ants.
    (P) Son, name me three things that God has made that there is no purpose for?
    (J) Hmmm, the breast on a Nun, the Weiner on a Preacher and these dumb, stupid, worthless ants!!!!

For small ant hills in the yard, I've found that a kettle of boiling water kills effectively without dangerous chemicals.

The harvester ants in my yard will not touch Amdro, neither will the small ants, nor the Argentine ants. [:(]

Terro works pretty well as thats what we have used. Typically we keep a few bait stations out of the way of kids and pets in the kitchen cabinets and garage to keep the stray ant from starting an infestation.

Now it depends on your issue as far as what kind and where you live. If you live in typical suburb without much forest or fieds chances of ants diminish. But either way your doing yourself a disfavor if you dont treat your foundation once a year. We usually buy a bag or two of the terro granuals comes in a orange bag, you rip off the top turn up side down and shake it walking around the foundtaion. Water it a little and the stuff last most of the summer into the fall. It also helps with spiders. I have done this every year and have had no issues, the year I didnt do it, we had ants. Dont use the powder stuff as it washes away quick. With the terro you can also treat the mounds directly.

A lot of it is common sense to. Keep the grass cut, segreate fire wood, pick up trash and dont let food trash linger in the house or garage during the summer months.

What, no one uses a 458?

    [:o)]

458s are too unwieldy- a 1911 is much handier and gives up little in the bore diameter department.
